I wonder if that thread about the boating tragedy devolved into a quixotic quest for the proliferation of double pole-plants? Or perhaps since it's boating, the idea that the time is ripe for revitalizing oceangoing outrigger canoes. Or whatever.

Well, there is a multi-hull forum over there. Very Happy
No, as near as I can figure, what goes on is that there's a lot of guys there w/long time hating on each other, some of it a debris dragged in from interactions on/in the race course/sailing community. Confused
Plus I think pounding down more than a few drinks while posting helps create an after-sailing-barroom-ambiance for some. Laughing

I'll never forget hearing my name during the Magic Mirror segment!

Oh and Willy, what's your problem with Rob anyway. He seems like a nice enough guy to me. Is it the result of some animus you've developed for him in the WOT? If so I'd appreciate it if you would keep it down there. Thanks.

I'm sorry Mitch. I think he's probably a nice guy too - just not my cup of tea. He's old and just sort of....weird. He's kinda of that quintessential, hippie baby-boomer and I'm sort of a quintessential Gen-X'r. It's less political than it is...cultural. He's an unreconstructed hippie; sometimes I think he just stepped off some strange, VW micro-bus, time machine. I don't really care for his generation. I think they're a mess and I think they left a mess. Poor Rob kind of personifies that segment of society to me so I take shots at him. That's about as good an explanation as I can muster in two or three minutes of thinking about it but it's probably pretty close. On a personal level I'm pretty sure Rob's a good guy. But I don't see him on a personal level. I see him as a stand-in here for an aging and ever more irrelevant, self-centered generation that wrote a bunch of checks that I'm expected to make good on. Or something like that.

Yeah, Mitch, really.

Pop quiz:
What generation famously proclaimed: "Never trust anyone over 30"? And they didn't.

These old geezers are hardly in a position to complain of age discrimination. Laughing Laughing

You don't see anyone here on a personal level. Laughing You see us all as pawns in your elaborate game of, well, game of something.

I know giys like you and I don't blame y'all for being a little bitter. Laughing

It must have sucked really bad to have come of age in the era of AIDS. I don't think I'm quite as old as Rob (sorry man) but just imagine what it must have been like for us, pre-AIDS, pre-Herpes even, and the pill had ushered in the coolest revolution in the history of revolutions.

Rob knows, and you can only imagine, poor poor angry Willie! Laughing

Next time you get to Mammoth give me a call, you still have my digits, I promise not to talk about it... Very Happy

Yeah, the parallel universe thing is very apparent -- but maybe not all that surprising. There are probably a limitless number of them out there.

What might not be obvious is that there's a place on the web which, through sheer massiveness, is exerting an inescapable pull on everything around it. Ultimately and inevitably the billions and billions of posts on the internet will be sucked into its grasp and infinitely compressed.

That place?

Clinton River.

How far is it...
....from a Geodesic dome in a forest to a commuter home on Mortgage? About as far as the distance between innocence and regret.

Never been to the boating forum at question and doubt I will. The wherewithal for meter-measured boats is well beyond my pay grade. The Maggots and our own OT sandbox provide as much abuse as my hide can stand.

What is the distance between kindness and despicable conduct?
Not sure it's as much as a long walk, but certainly it's within a stone's throw.

You mean the ability for folks to go on adnauseum for 11 pages with personel attacks or conspiracy theories about what an attacker really meant

basically about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin and which threads are these?? usually the threads that hit 7 pages before lunch

sailinganarchy's much bigger and much funnier. not really a surprise. like threads on ttips its interesting to read things in light of events that happened and things look much different in hindsight.

I wouldn't draw a comparison between the comments regarding ttips and those regarding SA it misses a fair bit of meat. Unless of course you are getting sued for slander by making fun of someone on the front page.

Slander on the "front page". Obviously, not a lawyer. I don't think that word means what you think it means. Jus' sayin'.

I heard that skipper went Machiavelli.

It's interesting to see which personalities seem to be duplicated between forums by what it's safe to assume are completely different people.
