Here's a good video to watch that show them tipping the bike to carve and also shows when to turn the bars to slowly menuever around trees and obsticles. Watch on the carves how they tip the bike, keep the body over the tires and really imprtant turn with the hips.

For the true carving (not drifting the rear tire - also a good skill to have) I find key is keeping your hips and body over the bike as much as possible and KEEPING BOTH FEET ON THE PEDALS. You want all body weight on the tires for grip. You also need to apply forward pressure on the front wheel entering the turn. Grip and commitment are everything.

A great vid of bike handling in the mud from last years worlds. Notice how much he stays on both pedals even considering how muddy it is:

Booker - Do you know this "Terry Colon"? A lot of the purported physics and purported economics on his site are B.S.

That's too easy. They should make those guys race on fully rigid frames.
And why does he keep lifting his left hand off the bar? Is he flipping off the spectators or what?
Anyways, after watching the above vid last night while it was pissin' rain on an already saturated landscape I went out to my local mtn. today thinkin' "I'm gonna' ride just like in that video..."
Didn't go quite as smoothly as I envisioned. Laughing

He might be using tear-offs over his goggles.

Could be nice to see where one is going in a mess like that.

What is it, PT stating PDQ? At least there is a bright side, now you can have fun with metal detectors at airports and courthouses...

Bummer about the ankle. Hopefully it will be back in shape for the fall riding season. Heal up quick.

I rewatched the Worlds viddy of Danny Hall's run. The Announcers refer to "pull offs" on a couple of occasions. I call them "tear offs" but they are a big help on muddy days, by either name:

They do wind up as rubbish/litter on competition courses, but there's usually not much trouble to shove them into a pocket on casual rides.

Met with the ortho yesterday, he took an xray while stressing the joint and didn't like what he saw (too large a gap) so preparations have been made for surgery. Apparently at the first post-op apt ( couple days later) I'm supposed to bring my boot/brace thing as I'm going to be put back into that. Given how wonderfully fun casts are over the long term I'm not going to complain...

Thanks for the thoughts!
