Oh I think they both did as well Brenda, and it would seem things have gotten better in the aftermath. I hope so, this is a great forum and it's a bummer when threads get mucked up by people who really don't know what they are talking about anyway (dpp?, please Rolling Eyes ), especially the beginner kind.

Hope you are having a good spring!

It's unending, I tell ya! What makes people ski bigots? Why are people unable to think for themselves ? It's it just a matter of wanting to be part of the clique ?"Joni" really does not know wtf she talks about..She's just another forum parrot with that distinctive lack of anything original or unique to say , so she says what she thinks others will love hearing and what "authorities" have told her..Pathetic!
This guy is widely considered to be prominent tele skier..
He needs some advice from Joni ! Think some forum opinion is going to affect him much? I don't ..Such examples as the one below are not at all hard to come by..
Something is a tad amiss here people..Contrast what Joni posted in the happy forum with what this guy is doing..

I don't really want to get in to the DPP debate and I have already said numerous times there are no absolutes. Having said that you post that video quite a bit in an attempt to justify DPP. Do you know the skiers intent or what he was trying to show? For all I know some Austrian type PSIA twat mentioned DPP was a very bad thing and he was using his extremely gifted athletic ability to ski at an expert level making DPP. What does that prove (other then he is very gifted) and even more may be some average Joe would need to make more efficient movements then are shown in that video to move their skiing to a higher level.

It's only one vid clips , James, and it's trivially easy to find clips of excellent skiing --usually in bumps or rough snow-- of people using DPP. Basically what it shows to me, is that people who rattle on about DPP NEVER being
useful, simply don't know. Christ there was a widely available CANSI insturctional vid in which one of the segments was of an instructor DPPING bumps continuously for about 3 minutes! What I personally see is that when dpp
is done fairly square to the fall line there's not much harm , if any, that it can do..In other words, if the downhill pole is being used right it almost makes dpp irrelevant at worst but possibly useful @ best..

I agree with you but FWIW I think your constant defending of it is the exact same thing but at the other extreme.

By the way can you see what changes in his skiing when he switches to single pole plants. There are quite a few things and I am not sure all of them are due to the switch in pole plants.

His skiing is smoother towards the end, but the ground also appears to be flatter with less bumps and more open space..but it's really hard to tell exactly what's going on..
I have an old ski magazine a ex-racer friend of mine gave me in which the instructor advises to use a dpp to correct for imbalance in rough snow, just as needed , not as some regular move..i was catually surprised to find it in the article.

James, If you can get a copy of SKI magazine, Jan 2011 , you will see the DPP advice given by Michale Rogan in the article "Crud Control"..The article is actually only 1 year old.. Laughing

He is smoother but more interesting is look at how much less he jumps in the air and look at where he gets his ski performance. At first his skis engage only at the end of the turn and he throws snow down the hill. At the end his skis engage in the middle of the turn and he throws snow sideways but he does not finish the turn. A lot or most of this could be his intent to just smooth things out and he does not finish the tuns because the slope flattens and he likes to go fast. Part of my point is we will never know with out knowledge of his intent and what he is trying to accomplish.

I honestly believe he is just trying to show that you can ski many ways and if you are good enough you can even look really good doing just about anything.

The bolden part is me being polite. I think he looks strong and aggressive but I would not use the words smooth, efficient or ask anyone to emulate that skiing in order to help them.

I don’t keep old magazines and don’t buy skiing but I am not surprised of the article or would I dismiss its use in certain exercises.
