I caught it and it did focus on skiing hairball lines, Chris Davenport and breaking body parts (ankles). The recent Steven's pass, WA avy was featured. They had a few shots of people booting, no skinning though.

Skinning is not extreme.

Yeah the heliskiing thing caught my ear too, and the fact that those hiking were all booting up sidecountry (you want a journalist to have to skin up? Probably is too much to ask actually). But whatever- we're the only ones who care about the inaccuracies, like any news story that you know the actual details of first hand. No one seems to understand the logistics of backcountry skiing until they've done it themselves (again, like most things).

I'm so glad they picked Tanner Hall to speak on behalf of all backcountry skiers. I really believe progression=death.

OK, I've seen it, the two minute trailer at least, and you are all right. I just didn't want to jump on that bandwagon until I'd seen it.

Around here, mid Atlantic, most people equate backcountry with cross country. So I guess that between that and Bryant Gumbel there is room for everybody. Rolling Eyes

Well, that's kinda depressing to watch.

I only watched the trailer but my reaction to it, and this thread...

Meh, if they replaced the words "backcountry skiing" with "extreme skiing" it would be more accurate and Gumble wouldn't be sensationalizing. Within that framework, Tanner's remark progression=death is probably not so far off base. McKonky was quite progressive and so too are all the young kids just one miscalculated take-off or landing away from maiming themselves during any number of x-games type of sports today.
