When it's good I have to get after it! I got a call last night from a friend who wanted to ski this peak called Augusta near Crested Butte (up Slate River Valley). I just happened to be off work today so we had a great dawn patrol tour for some corn snow.

We started in the dark after a 7 Mile sled ride to where the climb starts. Lucky for my my buddy had an extra for me. An additional 14 Miles of touring would have made this a little on the long side.

Our objective is the snowy peak to the left of the rocky one.

The views were pretty nice

The final approach was a ridge top boot pack

That's Mt. Crested Butte in the upper left of the frame

We had to hang out on the summit for a while to let the snow warm and soften up a little

Then it was time to ski

It was fun!

It was a little under cooked up top, over done at the bottom, and just right in the middle.
Cool

Sweet, Matt! I saw these on Flickr and figured you had been out getting some. Looks like it was a good day. Nice pix, too.
