Denver Post spot on Hoover Dam
Nice pictures. |
Massive over-reach and power grab by socialist/commie FDR in expanding the authority of the federal government. Nowhere in the Constitution does it give the president or the federal government to take on projects like this. If it was worth doing, it should have been left to the forces of the free market and/or the states. We should view Hoover Dam and all that came from it as a damn blight on our historical record. Same goes for the TVA.
If God wanted rivers damed by the federal government he wouldn't have made their nature to be wild & free. If WE wanted to dam them, it should have been done by private enterprise. Hopefully, if we can get President Rand Paul sworn in in '16 we can start blowing these blights on our freedoms up along with blowing up all the other misbegotten socialist mis-achievements of that damn FDR and all his following fellow travelers down through the years. Better wild & free than socialized and useful is what I say. |

Read Dams and Other Disasters for a good synopsis of why the Hoover and other dams were such a bad and useless idea; read Sand County Almanac for a nice portrait of what was lost downstream, and read Dead Pool for why the Hoover Dam is doomed to never fill again.
A few nice statues, though. |

So I am guessing you are not totally behind the old renewable and/or green resource idea? _________________ Il n'y a que moi qui a toujours raison.

So lochsa I understand your desire for whitewater but exactly what would you like to have in your front yard?

| Sorry, mental midget: I don't waste my time on simplisms whether authetically come by or trolling. Whitewater's not all that's lost when rivers are dammed, and your proposed alternative isn't the only one. Maybe you live on the east coast, though, and don't travel (or read) much. I already supplied you with a list, though, so you have no further excuse, save laziness and dishonesty. |

What a way you have there.
You seem a little touchy on that dam river thing.
Your waste of time is my waste of time, find your own way my knowledge and experience is a waste of time on the likes of you.
oh btw, I do live on the coast, the south coast of the lake by my house. Oh and that river, that dammed river, you know the one, the one that runs through Hoover Dam, pays my bills and lights my house.

Then you should exhibit more knowledge about it, or you're just another moron with a light switch. |

| It seems you've missed more than the point. You missed the boat, the dock, the beach and the last 60 years of history. I suggest you find your ascot in the back of your closet, cinch it around your neck & tighten the knot with needlenose pliers till it's the size a pea (or your brain). |

So I had a look at the three "references" you listed and they MIGHT make entertaining light reading but are hardly scientific in nature. Granted one of your choices does have value in the eyes of a conservationist but given your penchant for expressing your position so well, no civil engineer will even give it a glance.

D & OD was written by the head of the Army Corps of Engineers, the guy in charge of building most of the dams during the boom years. It's a retrospective on an entire career dedicated to The agenda you seem uncritically in favor of. The man demonstrates the capacity for growth as well as grace. Your limited and narrow education seems to have exempted you from either. |

There I go reading that damn label again:
Amazon.com | Quote: | | The title is compelling enough although the book does not quite live up to it. No expose of the Corps can ever be really complete without reference to the monetary waste and resource degradation that are the bread and butter of the Corps. To his credit, the author made it clear from the outset that his aim was to focus on other subjects, such as the Corps' traditional cliquishness and institutional vanity. |
Oh Yes, some true science in that book. Let's read that and find out the folly of the dam building society. Bullshit!
You have not had a single bit of substance to add to this thread.

Only a deluded buffoon like you could manage to so completely fail to comprehend the multiplicity of issues surrounding the damming of rivers. Your insistence on some narrow 'scientific' analysis rivals the diminished world view of JB. If you're so afraid to challenge your blinkered view, you're both pitiable and reprehensible. Funny, too, how you complain there's no civil engineering in the cited lit, then go to a reviewer's complaint to challenge not the engineer's credentials but one of the focuses of the book.
But like I said, I don't like to waste time with idiots, so you're left to yammer incoherently to yourself, twit. |
