This past weekend 3 couples and their 3 children (ages 3, 20 months, and 13 months) ventured out on what would be the first hut trip for all the kiddos. It was a close hut, so a second lap to the car for more stuff was part of the program; preparing for this trip definitely involved quite a bit of type 2 fun. But overall, it was a blast, lots of genuine type 1 fun!

I did my first hut trip at age 22, and my second at age 27, she's got her first trip under her belt at age 1! Laughing

Checking out the hut

I wonder if the pack will fit me?

First time playing on snow

First sled ride!

Yeah, I'm a hut baby.

Let's do this again! just give daddy some time to recover first.

Looks like a great trip, Danno. Congratulations!

We got smoked out of the cabin on our first hut trip when our little guy was 12 months old. We had to spend the second half of the night on the floor of another cabin with him pinned between us, just a foot from a hot woodstove. I'm learning that adventures with offspring are as much fun as they are nerve wracking.

Well done. Baby-proofing a hut sounds like a lot of work. Or did you just say feck it and let them play with hatchets?

the hatchets were outside. Smile the hardest part of baby proofing was already done, the hut has a foldable "fence" that you can use to block off the woodstove. Other than that, she just went to town. the other kids were old enough to stay out of too much trouble, but my kid wanted to crawl into the cabinet with the pots and pans and remove every. last. one. Laughing

That photo of the fence around the stove made me thing since we do get a lot of kids at Francies. We have a fence for folks to block off the basement stairs if needed, but nothing for the stove. Makes you think about cleaning fluids, bleach, etc on the bottom shelve but that's easy enough for parents to deal with.

Glad everyone had fun!
