I've been skiing an NTN rig (blues on 4) on 174 BD Machines and Garmont Prophets. It's been pretty good this season, enjoying the step in qualities and the new boot.

I made the mistake of trying a friend's Havocs, T1s, and BD 02s. It was way more responsive, felt less mushy searching for the edge, and overall had more control.

Any suggestions? I'd like to learn to finesse the current setup. I'm leaning toward blaming the move from a super stiff ski to a relatively soft ski.

You've just had firsthand experience of comparing NTN with REAL telemark bindings. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Don't be fooled, Jim can't NTN.

Mushy is not the word I would use for the NTN system. Are you within the recommended weight range with the springs/settings? How is the fit on your boots compared to your friends T1s. The machine is not described as an especially soft ski.

IMHO the Prophets and the T-1 are not going to be all that different. NTN set on blue 4 is going to feel a lot different then an 02 but the difference would not be described as mushy or less responsive. A Havoc is an average ski that I think is a bit plankish or sluggish and the Machines are stiff as hell and I have no intention of ever skiing them.

It is really hard to say what is causing you problems but I think it is the stiffer ski.

What level of skier are you and how much race type carving experience do you have. I think a strong skier with a good carving back ground could rail trenches on NTN and Machines but would not like having to slide or pivot them around doing quick turns or bumps.

I am not sure the Machine is a finesse ski.

Wow, "mushy" and "NTN" are not two words I would ever use in the same sentence. Or same paragraph.

Really not sure what's leading to your conclusions - James could be onto something.

Mushy and NTN...I don't think so.

(Hey Soulman, better post quick! Wink )

Tried the recommended settings and ended up adjusting them for more activity. My background is all mountain, no racing. Prefer lots of turns to ripping, but money is tight and I got the machines for a song.

The fit on the T1s was tight to the point of cutting off circulation after about ten minutes. My prophet fit is much better and actually usable for a full day.

Figured I would throw it out to you folks, thanks for the response. Going to guess that it's simply the stiffer ski combined with an actual fitting boot.

the only thing mushy about the NTN is my heart when I think about how it killed the sport of telemarking Laughing

In my opinion the garmont prophet is a crap boot. I cant stand to ski in mine and have switched back to my crispi evos. The prophet just has very little edge control vs the evo.

I think it's more likely that it's the skis.

How long are the skis and how heavy are you?

Also, how long were the havocs?
