Like noted here, try a longer ski sock with a very smooth non-seemed slightly padded shin in Merino.
Avoid the long underwear issue with something like this:

You might want to consider wearing running tights instead of long johns. Still warm and very comfortable inside ski boots. I have used tights with uninsulated shells for years no matter how cold. Of course telemarking tends to crank up the furnace! |

Just went to intuition site and looked around. Pricey
Im in intuition and Scarpa marked t-race liners got em for 30. Bought 2 pr and he shipped free 60 bucks for two pair intuition-made t-race liners! Gotta be careful but eBay has been very good to me
T_race liners make it easy to drive the cuff! _________________ If you are doing less than loving whatever you are giving your attention to, you are not who you were really born to be. |

Paying retail for sports gear lost appeal to me a couple decades ago

Being married and not having a regular job help in that department, too.

Well, Oldpinner, if you can't tell your shins from your calves, I hope you can at least differentiate a certain body part from a hole in the ground!
Smartwool ski socks are the best, IMHO. The Phd light cushion racer sock has a small amount of padding on the shin but is nice and relatively thin elsewhere. A pair will last you for years. As others have noted, keep your longjohns on the outside of your socks or roll them up. If worn inside the boots, make sure the seams around the cuff are flat-stitched.
And the anti-chafing stuff you were asking about is Bodyglide, pretty easy to find. Good luck, and hope you can ski comfy. _________________ A humble student at Fryingpan University. |

Well thanks, QuiverQueen. I was wondering how long it would take for somebody to put my stupidity in perspective.

At least I got that one right--I've been a fan of Smartwool products ever since I had, and recovered from, plantar fascitis. The padding on their socks is amazing.

Yeah, that's the stuff. I'm sure I can find some.
Also, I'm eventually going to get new liners for these boots. It appears that my weird feet put them right on the edge of being too big, according to Cesare's guidelines on this thread. With my small feet and narrow heels, I might have done better with Mondo 25s, but I suspect I'd have ended up with black toenails--no fun either.
Gotta heal those blisters, so I can enjoy this snow while it lasts. The forecast calls for showers and 50-degree temps very soon.
Welcome to the Great Northeast!

Been there, done that. What worked for me was pulling the long underwear up above the boot cuff. I've used everything from silk socks to Smartwool and everything in between without a problem since. _________________ You know it's a good day when you wake up in the morning. |

This and I use duct tape on the shins when they feel threatened. I suppose duct tape on the tongue might help, too. _________________ "It's turns! 'Course it's worth the hike" -MrP |

never delt with blisters, but my shin bones feel brusied almost all the time Anyone having this problem. Currently using Garas with the luxury pro liner. Thinking that the shells might be the problem I ordered a new pair of Crispi XRs, should be here for next weekend Any ideas? |

Thanks for the suggestions, all.
Here's what I'm trying:
1) I did Cesare's test, measuring my bare foot inside the shell, and the news is not very good: My feet are right on the cusp of being too small.
2) I ordered heel pads and tongue pads from Tognar Toolworks--they should be here by Monday.
3) (Kind of creepy) I shaved my lower legs to the boot line. My wife and I went touring yesterday (great powder!), and I covered the sore spots with adhesive tape. It seem to work nicely.
Then, there are always various combinations of socks to try. I'm sure I'll get it to work.
Gotta get ready for the Mother of all Telemark Festivals next weekend!
