I remember vividly the day NTN hit the market; all my friend's 75mm gear stopped working. It was like an EMP event, but for ski gear. Freaky. _________________ All those who believe in telekinesis, raise my hand. |

"telemark" is a region of norway and some type of ski turn.

Plastic free heel boots made the Telemark Turn unnessasary, no matter the binding platform, prior to it's introduction turning with leather boots on a light weight ski the telemark turn was the most efficient turn. With modern skis and boots the bottom line is Tele is no longer the most energy efficient way to ski. Thus rather than dieing The telemark turn has evolved into an art form. I like art, but I also like being efficient in the backcountry, so now I mainly parallel but occasionally drop a knee for nostalgia's sake. But true art skillfully applied will never die. _________________ It's not about the turn, but rather was it earned? |

Yup and it continues in pockets. Downhill tele is what it is, pinhead tele continues, you can hear them in the woods, laughter, whoops, and screams of delight. teleman _________________ Teleman1 |

You can smell them long before you can hear them. _________________ Gravity. It's the law. |

Ha, and if you got lucky downwind from us you would smell roasting Venison and Moose. Except for a very few mostly outback hunters don't expect many Ttipers to ever get there. Teleman _________________ Teleman1 |

I know this is kind of a joke thread but I am kind of curious about this myself. Aside from the obvious difference like binding interface, no duckbill, no heal cable, Step in (which isn't truly step in if you still have to flip a lever) etc, what are the differences in skiing?
I have never tried NTN although if there was a free demo somewhere I would probably give it a go. I'm just curious because there are endless threads stating "i just tried NTN...so this is what it feels like to tele" or "now i'm locked in and can finally make a real tele turn". These statements, to me anyway, assume that NTN will make you a better telemarker.
Not trying to troll here but from my observations of people I see on NTN is this, if you made a good tele turn before NTN you will still make a good tele turn when on NTN. If you are struggling to make a good tele turn before NTN you are going to struggle making a good tele turn when skiing NTN. I think there is an assumtion out there the NTN will make you turn better. I haven't observed this at all.
The other benefits I understand especially having a more mountaineering oriented boot but for those who just ski why is it worth it to spend so much money on something that's not going to improve your skiing? I guess I have to try it to really understand? _________________ Bite off more than you can chew...and then chew like hell. |
