Weeeeeell, Kinda lookin' like it's a wrap for the season around here. went up to do Lake Fork peak in the Williams Lake Basin on Friday May18, and this is what I found:

Four 'n a half hour hike for my Slow Ass from the Bavarian to the Top. Looking towards Pueblo Peak and the Truchas Peaks beyond.

Droppin' In. Rocks had come up for air about seven turns down. Walked the bordz over 'em, fun commenced in earnest the rest of the way down.

Sweet Corny Goodness, with some old pinwheel chunks to keep one honest.

So I hiked up the saddle that separates the north col of Lake Fork from Wilderness Bowl. All was rosy for the moment...

The first shot down from the ridge above had some of the sweetest turnz of the day. But after sloggin' 'em over the rocks to the top of this small chute, things started goin' south. four turns in, I knocked off enuf of a slush sluf to bounce me over all those the boulders in the choke. Fortunately, all I got out of it was a good ass-battering, and I landed on my edges and skied out of it to looker's right.

No more pics at this point, 'cos it wasn't much fun anymore, and continued to be un-fun with another slushy fearin'-for-my-life chute, a 3rd class down a ravine in a cliff band, and a two hour slog thru rotten sno in the trees back to the trailhead for a ten hour day.
I wanted some ibuprofen real bad, but had to settle for acetaminophen at a kindly friend's house just down-valley.
Yeah, I'm a bone-head, but this was after the first few nights in weeks that it had actually been freezin' enuf to consider such a sorteé, and I was a little overly stoked.

Sin Nombre Peak, in the back of the Williams basin
may keep enuf snow for another week or so, but unfortunately we appear to be going back to a no-freezing-at-night cycle, and it's supposed to be windier than all get-out for the rest of the week Sad

See all you Front Strangers up at Indy Very Happy
