climberchica, how old is Hazel? 3? Love love love seeing that, it means I only have 2 years till I'm there!

My kid? She doesn't jump in to things. She is NOT a risk taker. As evidence? We never baby proofed our house. She can be very, very tentative with new activities. Even now, she won't jump off the couch or do stupid kid stuff.

That's a blessing and a curse.

You may want to be happy she is tentative. We are on the other side of the spectrum where our kid wants to dive off the side of the slide, couch, etc. He is an absolute nut. Runs, bangs of a wall head first and keeps doing it again and again. He is only 16 months.

The other night my wife took him to the near by ice rink and was sliding him on the ice. On the way back he dives on the cement sidewalk and tries to slide on it. Rolling Eyes

Most days are pretty nerve racking. He also does not sit for more than 1 minute. Pretty sure he was born without the fear gene.

End of the day we are exhausted.

PS- love the pics!

Do skinny skis and lycra count in this thread? Here's my 12 year old daughter practicing slalom on one ski last night.

Ducking ropes with my 4 year old ski partner today. The first real storm of the winter rolled through yesterday.

We may do it again tomorrow or build space ships out of Lego.

This was the first run of the day. I said in the parking lot that we were going to shred some pow. He said that he wanted to work on his turns first.

Another weekend, another jump in skills for Hazel. We rent a room (a closet, really) on the mountain and I am so, so happy we made that decision this year. Hazel is on the mountain 2-3 days EVERY WEEK and watching her progress has been the highlight of my ski season. The room rental is money well spent. Tell Hazel it's Friday and she knows we're headed to the mountain for the weekend. Screw the zoo and the children's museum and playdates. We've got skiing to do.

Here's Hazel this weekend at Meadows on Vista Ridge. It was her first time on a high speed quad. She rocked it.

Today, she lapped the lower bowl at SkiBowl over and over and over again.

I'm so freaking proud. Wink

Kirkwood, February 4th and 5th, 2012. Winter fun with my kids. Beautiful weather and no crowds. Here's an edit of my 7 year old daughter Frankie, she really "rocks":

Here's a video of Hazel skiing today at Timberline:

We are officially off the bunny hill- just going straight to the "Big Kid" chairlifts these days (ie. the high speed quads).

Great video of Hazel there Climberchica! So stoked to see Hazel doing so well and I so wish we had a place on the mountain to stay every weekend...it would be so much easier!!!

Here are a few pics from this season so far. Finn is almost 16 months old and he did 8 runs this last Sat. Before that he only had done a couple days of three runs on skis and then a few between naps in the pack. Things are looking up in our house!!! Smile

Mama Bear wanted in on the fun as well!

Scary part...Finn really loved the jumps...kid after my own heart! Cool

So, we wake up today and remember that Mia has no school. Work? Screw it! It's sunny and when does that happen in February. Plus it's 49 degrees. The snow will be soft. Let's go to Callaghan for fun.

Standard views on the way shot while driving. Not smart, but what else do we do?

Mia is game. Not a bad shot for not looking:

Daisy called shotgun:

Mia drew Daisy: "It's hard to draw in the car!"

This mountain seems to be everywhere. On the to do list for a spring climb:

I wonder if you can climb this?

Tantalizing! Maybe some day if I am not afraid of heights.

Must bring binoculars! Helps us find lost gummi bears in the wheel well.

Soft snow in Vancouver can mean hard-as-rock-refrozen-hell in Callaghan: "This is LOUD!"

Who cares. I'll ski 5k up and then 5k back on hard refrozen crap. And she did. I think I have the hard-assest bad-assest 7 year old in Canada.

No more pictures!

Time to shave, Chris. (Mia's photo)

Can I have a bite of your hoagie?

Can I clean your face? There's some hoagie on it.

This is actually very difficult: not super steep, but hard as a rock, chopped up, groomed a week ago with multiple snowmachine tracks, etc. Mia? Who cares. She took it in stride and demanded to go first. I was shitting my pants watching. One tip over the side into that creekbed and she's lost.

It's really just so ugly around here. I'm moving back to Philadelphia...

Proof of success:

I can't say enough about old Mia. 10k, hard hard hard snow. Hills. The dog chasing her. What-ev-er, she says. I had metal edges and she had 5 year old fischer xc fishscales and an utter lack of fear. She won.

And can I add? If one ever wonders: should I skip work today? Blue skies? Nice temps. Kid home from school? Um. No brainer.

Mekon... that was the double-take post of the year. Mia looks like the twin of my daughter, Maya's, best friend Kiana. Very impressive edgeless skiing on ice groomers!

drjth - I-movie + 10 year olds = vid edits. Crazy times we live in.

My daughter came home the other day and introduced me to her blog that they're building in class. WTF!? Then she did a Prezi.com presentation re: climate change and the loss of high alpine snowpack. Who are these little people???? My 6 year olds son is probably in class riding some App for streaming weather conditions using Fortran right now.
