First snow of the season! Who's got Tue/Wed's free? After next weekends' storm - possibly enough snow by the 15/16th to catch a few turns on South Yolla Bolly.
It's been three weeks since I skied last. Withdrawal setting in...
Who wants to go wheelin' and jibbin'?

Anyone in NCal with midweek days off?

Still waiting for more snow. But the storm on the weekend of the 19/20th looks promising.
Planning on hitting up Mt. Linn(South Yolla Bolly) during the Thanksgiving week. Still gotta get my November turns in.
Month 23 of TAY WILL happen!

I got Tue/Wed/Th off. Anyone game for some Coastal action?

Things are lookin' good! Still planning on getting the first turns of the '11/'12 season in the Coast Range on Tuesday.
South Yolla Bolly looks to have around a foot of snow.
http://www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/earth/
The approach road should melt off with Monday's sunshine.
I can hardly wait! Also, just found out that my January vacation is APPROVED! January 1 - February 2nd.
You kids really have to experience skiing these remote peaks. The smoothest corn snow in the world.

Major stormage coming in January...?

I can't stand the suspense.

Still waiting for more snow...This winter is killing me!

This is a satellite image from yesterday (Feb. 22, 2012).

taken from this website.
http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/imagery.php?op=fire&fireID=ca-north-000
click the 'false color' jpeg map in the middle.
the aqua-blue is snow.
Pretty cool, eh?!

It looks like Snow Mt. might have some turns. Hull has some snow on the north side in the Hullbacks and Hullafar Bowl.

Might have to head up anyway and see what I can find.

- in case you missed it -

I sure hope he's right. The precip has started to return!
I was going to head up this week, but the stormage
on Wednesday might keep me home.
Storm skiing the Coast Range is not necessarily a good idea.
Super high winds and fog.
The coastal mountains aren't high enough
to lift the storm clouds and the peaks just get buried
in total whiteout conditions.
But I've got a three day weekend next week. Tue-Thur. off.
Hopefully I can use that time to get up there.
It's snowing on Hull and Snow Mt. right now.
Very Happy
Finally!

Well, janzalo bailed at the last minute, so I stayed home.
But the storm put a good amount of snow up there for me.
Very Happy

Looks tasty!

Oh, man -I've waited for this for so long. ROAD TRIP!

I scheduled Th. off(3 days off) about a month ago (on purpose- full moon...) in anticipation of a March Miracle.
I got lucky.
Hopefully, the next ~60-80 hours will bear some fruit.

Very Happy

PostPosted: Wed Apr 04, 2012 1:36 am    Post subject: Boardman Ridge Closure Reply with quote

They have started a seasonal closure. From Dec. 1 - May 1. There is a sign at the bottom of Boardman Ridge saying ROAD CLOSED.
A piece of paper below it states that the road is only for land owners accessing their land and Gov. officials, firefighters, etc.

$5000 fine and/or 6 months in jail for poaching the road with a vehicle.

I went exploring for another/more access points. I wish I had brought some maps.
At the bottom of Boardman Ridge, I drove down the M6 into the Game Refuge.
I've never been there before. I know some of the ridges on Hull go off in that direction. I drove for 11.3 miles and took a left on a road with an open gate. 5 more miles and I hit too much snow @ 4000'. I think I was out by High Point. Saw a big, huge outcropping of rock. I think I was heading up the road that leads to the bottom of the Hullbacks. Panther Ridge.
It's too far. I need to get to Hullaska Ridge/OB Bowl area.

I saw the road 19N50, right at the Penny Pines fire area. I had a feeling about that road, even without a map.
When I got home, I checked Google Earth and topo maps and found that road 19N50 leads to a ridge that leads into Hullaska Ridge.
I was running out of gas, so I didn't try driving up it. But I need to find a legal way to access Hull so I can continue to post TR's.

Sucks! But I think there is a way to get a Jeep in there close. Right by Little Round Mt., when the M6 goes up high, over the Eel River - right after the TH to Bloody Rock/Snow Mt. That's where 19N50 takes off.

60 extra miles of 4 wheeling today. Maps will be taken next week.
I got some photos of the new terrain today. New entry point will be found. There are three possibilities. Forest Service Road 19N50 is the key...

Fight like Hull.
Battle Mode!
