i concur shasta is in the best shape i have seen it top to bottom. last week we had wintry porn snow off the summit/clear creek pocket chute and the ne shastina lines and good corn top to bottom in the trinities, thumb rock chutes, and shastarama. the corn off the s side of lassen was even better after 2 days on shasta though it was prolly just more fully transitioned.

but is shasta in the sierra?????? is there perhaps another thread dedicated to this mountain???? just sayin

smg or anyone -- jonesin to ski clear creek. whats the magic number for a managable daytrip distance on the clear creak road closure????

Well some of us are still skiing The Sierra. Evil or Very Mad

Hiked Tamarack for the eclipse, skiing around to the subdued half-light on the land and making tight sweet velvety turns most of the way back to the road. Cool

Am I the last one left skiing in Tahoe? Twisted Evil

Is there still enough snow for touring around (as well as up) the mountain?

Rev, looks like the answer is "yes"

Mormon Emigrant Trail (Iron Mountain Rd.) is just now clear (enough) of snow and passable by regular vehicles. The gate at the top by 88 is now open. This is the quickest way to KW/Carson Pass from the 50 foothills.

Anything still shakin near Tioga pass or is it a done deal at this point? I don't mind hiking out to it (duh). Anything with snow is fine, but also wouldn't mind hearing about some more moderate stuff for my GF to play around on.

It was a loooong dry hike from the road but we found buttery smooth corn off of Sonora Pass on Sunday.

Anyone up for Tahoe area BC this week? Echo Lake boat taxi is open for access to the backside of Ralston, and I have some beta on where we could ski from the car at Ebbets, at least my buddies could last week. PM me.

Wednesday morning tour. Highland Lakes Road drivable all the way to the upper lake. About an hour of booting to get to continuously skinnable snow. JB and Riley Rose ascending toward our first objective: the saddle.

Recent snowfall made for some beautiful scenery, interesting conditions, and hidden rocks.

Mixture of new snow, wind buffed new snow, the sun, some new snow on bare rock, some new snow on old snow made for an interesting descent. Ski bases were gouged; fingers were bloodied. A few shots of JB and Riley.

Our tracks from best aspect of the day; did not see the sluff happen

JB and Riley leading to the second saddle

View of Leavitt Peak (Y-colouir, dead center) from lunch spot atop saddle on NE? ridge off Hiram Peak

Recent snow made for pretty scenery

Conditions tricky on the way down; soft snow under new snow

Looking back on our two saddles: top right and last saddle about 3/4 of the way left

View of Roundtop Peak (near Carson Pass) on right

JB about to drop into our last descent down toward the Highland Lakes

View back toward the approach to the northern bowls (on back side of ridge) from upper Highland Lake

thanks for the pics, more snow than i thought there would be!

anyone seen saddlebag/conness lately? was thinking of heading there this weekend.

lassen was great last weekend but seems to be closed now for trail repair. however, there was persistent vague/contradictory info on this from the NPS and my final guess is that the peak itself is really closed and the other peaks are actually still open for travel, or at least being left unenforced...
