Pastoral yesterday

hiked out the new Iditarod trail in Turnagain Pass.

some of the stuff that has been sitting around for awhile is ok trail while the new stuff is muddy. I guess that Saran Wrap around the "cabin" of the trail boss is to keep the rain out and off the operator Smile

the trail crosses Ingram Creek, bridge not built yet, near Eddies, then crosses Ingram Creek again and heads to the highway. It should open terrain up for hiking and probably skiing. I thought they were going to be finished by October 1st but I am pretty sure that isn't going to happen.

Hey Bob... Do you know if this portion of the trail will be open to snowmachines? I was under the impression that the entire iditarod trail would to open to snow machines and was unaware that they had chosen the route along Ingram/wolverine creeks.

And what does that mean? Open or not?

In other words will the state play it's RS 2477 card?

If I read it correctly, the trail will follow the management plan outlined by the USFS. If that is true, no snowmachines.

And over the last two years, I have slowly come around on my thoughts on snowmachines- and this side of Turnagain does not need them.

Hey Billy, the trail is on the non-motorized side so no snowmachines. Trail should run from No. Johnson Pass down to the lower Eddies "trailhead" lot at mile 72.5. On the sections I was on not many bridges in so access is limited right now. For instance nothing over Lyons Creek, and Taylor Creek out of Taylor Pass. They put those bridges in on the snowmachine side last year to enable longer seasonal access between Johnson Pass and the motorized trailhead at the mile 69 lot.

I am more of a visual person myself. Reading and writing are like a 2nd language for the funhog. so while you write snow, I kind of like to see it...Up on Sunburst about noon.
