It may have been pre-crash and even pre NTN, but there use to be some info on do-it-yourself rope tows around here. Anyone know anything about them?

buddy of ours has one running off a PTO from an old tractor and a pulley on the other end.

heard of a group of guys in Maine who rigged something up off their drive draft on their truck, they just pull up to a pitch, last one to finish the first beer has to hike the pulley up, they take a wheel off the truck, attach the bottom pulley to the lugs, and voila, portable rope tow

the hard part is finding a pair of gloves that stand up to the friction of the rope - amazing how fast you can burn through a pair of $9 kinco's

first you need an old car on blocks at the top or bottom with a bare drive wheel. then mount wheels on posts for the rope to ride on and a system of tensioning the rope so the car wheel will drive it. a safety switch is probably a good idea, a wand at the top that will short out the ignition system in the car or something to de-tension the rope. j

There is some great videos on Youtube if you search "homade tow rope". Most seem to be made from old lawn tractors. If I had the acreage with the slope Id be all over that idea. My kids would think I was a hero!

Just buy some granola at Costcos and put some teleskiers in a hamster wheel.

As a tele skiing hamster this has me quite worried...luckily I don't really like granola so much.

We've been toying this idea around as well for a kid run at friends property. Like the looks of the nstelemark's link. Probably could diy a little cheaper but might end up re-inventing the wheel along the way.
Look forward to seeing what direction you go ATA.
We will likely be moving forward with it next season.

"Here's our home made tow rope, built from an Ariens two stage
snow blower
. 3.5 HP, I've got 150 feet of rope, will add another 50-75
feet. Next will be sorting out how to attach and detach sled rope to
tow rope as little ones can't hold onto rope due to steep hill"
