Where are the permits with liability waivers to protect the Forest Service, State, County, and private land owners?
Hmmm, sue the Buxton's if you happen to get caught in an avalanche or injured on their private land..? Come to think of it, that is mighty dangerous terrain.
I tried to be the sacrificial lamb the other day, but it occurred on the wrong side of the ridge. Better luck next time maybe?

At the risk of being flamed by this righteous crowd, I do sympathize with them. Most of you seem to think it is wrong to be rich. Hmmm, most who are rich, work very hard or take big risks to make that money. And since when is it wrong to own land and want to protect that land or use it as you want, especially if it does not harm anyone else.
Oh, by the way, each you list your addresses here and I will be by to use your home as my ski headquarters (at least those of you who are near good skiing) with no compensation and I want the best bed in your house and steaks every night for dinner. _________________ "Should of been here yesterday"

Review the maps of cardiff in a thread from a couple years ago; these are not land barrons, they own a patchwork of mostly poorly marked patented mine claims with very limited development potential and behave, at least in Buxtons case, as threatening thugs. I am not sure of the cardif road status, but I believe that is a historic ROW up the canyon that they cannot keep people off. They are allowed to use biles and vehicles to access their land ONLY and these permits are restricted to immediate family, a law they don't seem to get or follow and this does seem to harm more that a few people.

Careful......people will think you're my new alias !!!
What I found interesting in the letter is that WPG plays a role in SAR operations. You seem to be sympathizing with and arguing with imaginary people.

As long as we're making ridiculous analogies, consider one that fits the situation a little better. A Sandy City homeowner demands Alta and Snowbird charge all skiers an extra fee, which will then be paid to him, because a few skiers have cut the corner of his un-fenced lot on their way to catch the ski bus. If the homeowner is generously paid, he agrees to quit yelling at all those damn kids.
So this is basically 14 people whining about their FS inholdings?
Good luck with that
Maybe they're 14 RICH people.
No, they are 14 people who wish they were rich and see blackmailing the US Government into buying out their worthless mining claims as a way of doing that.
I agree!! Utah is rife with this kind shite. But, that doesn't mean these tea baggers won't do their damndest to continually throw wrenches into the system or come into alliance with the corporate resort moneybags to limit future access to our amazing backcountry. Our Utah/Wasatch backcountry is a national treasure and should be viewed in the same light as ANY of our national parks or monuments. I'm wondering if Glenn Beck actually wrote this tripe? _________________ "Q-What does it all mean Mr Natural? A-It don't mean S#!+" r crumb

Ignorant class warfare wingnut spray & did they inherit it?
If so, hard work & big risks indeed.
Do I remember correctly they have police records from multiple previous issues in BCC?

Do you imply they've opened a B&B w/steak dinners up Cardiff Fork? Do they like to show off their pistols to the guests?

If the Buxtons keep bleating about trespassing and how valuable their land is, the County should force them to clean up all of their toxic waste from the mine tailings.
The Forest Service would love to hear about any conflicts, especially physical, with the Buxton brothers.

Well yes, but in this case they bought (inherited?) a mining claim and are now trying to get it rezoned to allow them to build a backcountry lodge which would be fantastically impractical considering they have little to no access to it. They know this and are just trying to raise a fuss to get someone to buy them out.
They could always mine the land (its original use), but as soon as they turned over a spade full of dirt they'd come under all sorts of environmental scrutiny.
Land in that area is really tricky. There are lots on the Alta summer road which you could pay a fortune for, yet are too steep to build on and have no water rights, so you can't do much with them. People pay a ton of money for them, then threaten to sue someone (usually the government) if they can't build on them, but in my mind, they bought a worthless piece of land and it is their own fault. Just because you own it and vastly overpaid for it doesn't mean that you should be able to do whatever you want for it. Well, except in Utah....
You would seem to be right, of course. When they're done demanding that the forest service charge backcountry skiers for the avalanche control other agencies perform in other places, they have a nice rant that insists SLC tear down the BCC water treatment plant and replace it with wells. Because aquifers are inexhaustible, you know. But the real ire does seem to be about having land in a protected watershed.
I actually thought that development near the town end of the summer road was going to fly. Who shot that down? Was it those nefarious hippie skier thugs?
