Aye; Bachelor today was 3000 feet of corn about as perfect as it gets. The upper 1000 were mindblowing. As in better than some of my best pow days mindblowing.

The corn at Hood on Saturday was also some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. We turned around at Hogsback due to visible slide activity. Skiing 4,000ft of corn to the car was a blast.

The snow level in the recent round of storms in southern Oregon was supposed to be about 10,000' or more. I'd expect slushy conditions but it looks like corn may be reforming quickly. Maybe the snowpack has lots of drainage now.

The only way to find out is to go up there. North and Middle sister have lots of very good lower angle terrain if you don't like the looks of the steeper stuff.

Does anyone know if the volcanoes have been getting new snow in the 3-sisters/bachelor area lately?

Rime and water ice at the summit of Bachelor but I don't like this snowpack at all. No normal spring cycle as yet to send it to isothermic consolidation, weekly special advisories from NWAC, and nasty slides like the one up at Disappointment Cleaver.

Thanks very much for the replies. We'll probably wait and see what it does with the midweek storm and decide from there. If we go, I'll be post an update of what conditions we find...

Blurb:
Hi COAA folks,

Just ringing the bell on some late season activity in our backyard...North Sister's north face slide rather big sometime Saturday/Sunday, as reported by Kevin on our bulletin board. It's visible from town.

While we don't have any exact beta or near-distance reports on the incident site, it's a great reminder that dangers still exist in the backcountry snowpack, even in June, as the weather improves and clear days mean opportunities for longer lines and summit attempts.

So whether you're out schralping the cornholio or crust cruising in a t-shirt and skate skis...keep your radar on, your beacon beeping, and stay avy savvy!

Thanks, and stay safe out there,
COAA

Mt Scott was quite nice on Tuesday. Drove to 6200', breaking through one snow patch
near the end with a bit of effort. (Beyond where I parked the road is level but still well
snowed over.)

The conditions on the top section were as good as it gets in Oregon in corn season.
The middle was pretty good with some mild sun cups. On a warm enough day the melt depth
would still exceed the suncup height. Down lower it was good cruising through sparse
trees but the ruts and suncups were getting large enough to make turns harder.

Great view of the lake from the summit, the rim drive is clearly still snowed in:

Looks like good coverage on Thielson and Backbone Ridge:

Ah yes, as a retired old dude, I think I will share with you my latest Marys Peak ski report. I have only skied on the Peak 11 times this year and today was the best so far! We were able to easily drive to the upper gate at the west parking lot. It was an easy glide in with about 6" of freshies. The temp was about 24 degrees and the wind was out of the north. We skied up the road and played in the bowl near the parking lot and then headed over to the swoop and the steeps. Snow drifted in much deeper in these leeward areas. Really, Really; windy up on top. The run down the edge of the trees on the backside would have been nice but my ski buddy was getting kinda tired. We are going to give the Peak a rest tomorrow to hopefully fill in our tracks. Look out Friday! Rumor has it we might even see the sun. Tele Ho!

Marys Peak was in fine form today with 8 inches of powder and sunshine! Nice to meet some other Telemarktipsters up there as well, although they could have done a better job skiing closer lines on my favorite run, the swoop. I am glad they were skinning, because they overlooked my favorite run on the steeps. The Peak is such a fine mountain for waxless skis like my brand new Rossignol BC 125's. They rocked today! Looks like they had a good time on the backside. Nice thing about the Peak, there are plenty of options for untracked powder, when conditions are this nice. Being only 4,097 feet, high, powder is usually a rare treat. it has been this way for over a week!

I'm glad you found some powder Ratski! Epic day up there on the peak.

If it wouldn't have been for one of my partners' leaving their left cocktail clip up I think the spooning would have been a bit tighter... Wink

Happy turns out there this new year!

...drove by Forbidden Crater Today....It is in....as well as all the other Hwy 20 environs....did somebody say "Tripple Cliffs"?? Laughing Laughing .

Kudos to those who tracked up the East side of the Crest to the highway.... I don't drive that way often, and had never even considered that as an option.

New years day ski on the east side of Hogg rock. Snow conditions were excellent. Deep fresh snow that has stayed cold and stable. Did a few laps before going to soak at Belknap. Great way to start the year. Happy New Year to all.
