Yeah!
Nice to see a return to summer form for the toque, and with a fresh young protoge' in tow as well.
Plenty of nice looking shortish lines remaining on the circuit between Chester and Headwall valleys on Sunday.
Either side of the col in particular featured potential runs of maybe 150 m vertical.

Not enough to justify carrying all that ski crap though.
Pond skimming anyone?

A birds eye view from the summit of the Fortress showed no signs of newfie oil tycoons at work reviving the ski area. Laughing

Don't know if my kind is really welcome here, but this is the Rae Glacier on the 18th of July.

I think the last few pages of photos may have stirred up a need to investigate a different sort of laminate wood product for riding on snow which will allow me to access these untouched slopes... I don't think my snowboard will work.

We are quite alright with knuckle draggers here at the Alberta thread. It's your desire to visit
that desolate, rock-strewn patch of ice known as the Rae Glacier which causes us concern!

jk, thanks for the pics. How about some action shots of skier girl next time?

hmmm?...I can't figure out where this might be....

From Aug 4 Calgary Herald:
"Although the arrival of the film's star-studded cast and crew is still a few months away,
construction in the Kananaskis will begin later this month. The set will require a large building
that will employ a large number of construction workers and carpenters, and will undoubtedly
benefit local lumber yards, which will supply materials. Private and public roads as well as a bridge
that are already in disrepair around the site will reportedly be fixed at the expense of the
filmmakers and left for future use."

DeCaprio filming at Fortress?

Most mountains in Kananaskis are named after WW1 battle ships. We have Indefatigable, Invincible. But we don't have a Titanic. Maybe they should rename that ridge N of the resort, the one that overlooks Galatea and the hwy. Kinda looks like a sinking ship when viewed from certain angles.

My favorite quote from the movie:
[after the collision]
Jack: This is bad!

AT,

I noticed some recent pics on another sno-sliding website. I was considering hitting up Lyautey, any tips on gaining the basin from the Three Isle trail near the forks campground?

Is there actually a trail?

Both of which blew up at Jutland with far fewer survivors than the Titanic sinking!

So we can thank Leonardo DiCaprio for the completion of the Fortress bridge? The saga just gets stranger.
