seems like a lot of you are scraping around in the wrong places. this past weekend was probably some of the best skiing of the season. was at Alpine for opening bell on Saturday. They reported 17" storm total at mid-mountain, and it was easily that deep and light. Patroller said top few inches were 4 percent. Hemlock bowl and Estelle were waist-deep fluff in places.
Did a couple laps on Jake's Sunday. It well delivered the goods. North facing gullies were deep and light. North-winds caused some scrapy conditions up high on the east facing gully, but generally mighty fine turns all the way down down down. but really, Jake's sucks. don't ever go skiing there. really. |

It was a small "slide"... maybe 20ft by 20ft. About 2-3" layer of sun-warmed wet snow sloughed off - the north side of NE ridge above the NE bowl. I just snuck into the trees until the snow felt more stable.
Yeah.. I need to do some exploring and find the stashes. |

The wife and kids are off this week for spring break so we spent a few days in Tahoe having some fun. Here are some pics
Skyler is at the age where he takes hie skateboard everywhere. I totally remember being the same way on family trips when I was young....Washington DC and Oklahoma to name a couple. That's the beauty of skateboarding, if there is a little bit of concrete (or picnic table) you're good to go!
I'd say he's learned the ollie well.
Chillin.
The next day we got to do something I've been dreaming about for years...a family splitboard outing.
Sky and the mrs used splitboards (thanks dishwasher dave!) and Haley was on approach skis. The goal was to introduce them to skinning and while we didn't make it to our destination due to a late start we still had a blast and I've planted the bug in them.
We found a cool little spot off the trail for lunch.
Sky figured out skinning quick.
And even some split skiing.
My little nordic jibber. He had the glide down.
We like to stay at the Horizon because the rooms are cheap, clean, and have great views.
Gotta hit the arcade too.
The next day I got the girls some new boards since everything is on sale this time of year. They were stoked.
Haley
Mrs bcrider
Sky is progressing nicely too, check out that edging.
Even jibbing the fun box.
The mrs making some nice turns.
Doubles.
Haley hit a steep(er) section and owned it!
"This way right Dad?"
Sky can bomb the bunny run and make it down in 35 seconds.
Family portrait.
All in all it was a sweet trip and a great reminder of how lucky I am.
I love you family! _________________ more cowbell! |

Nice shots Chris. Good vibes!
And, um, you may want to believe that your kid is really into this whole "splitboarding" thing, but this picture tells a totally different story...
This kid's a knee droppin' meadow skipper at heart!!! |

Some pics from today around Mt. Rose Wilderness, conditions were 1-2" fresh on top of firm to breakable crust. So, better than we thought and made a few turns.

Hey Folks,
Just a quickie report from the Eastside: Skied Bishop Bowl today, the key to good corn skiing today is altitude and subtleties of aspect. We found excellent corn below 10,000 on south facing slopes. Higher stuff hasn't yet cooked enough days, and anything at all North of East has more wintry characteristics still.

| Corn? I got up to foot of decent pow on N/NE treed aspects above 8.5k' on Fireplug and the Mt.Rose Step. Didn't see a soul all day either, and the few tracks I crossed were from last weekend as far as I could tell. The runout down to the 431 switchback at 7.5k' is going fast though. |

| yeah, we passed up a few pow lines on our corn hunt today including an untracked main cross entrance. so sure, there's still great pow to be had but we were committed to the s facing lines due to our point to point gameplan. we were both stoked that we are finally in a great corn cycle after the last couple of years. last year and the year before the pack was not well consolidated and the corn harvest was pretty lacking in my opinion. classic tahoe spring day today no matter what you were sliding on. |

I don't know much, but when the hi/lo split for the last several days is 55/25 , corn is a-harvesting. _________________ Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. |

We threw a couple rocks down the main entrance saturday and while it was soft up top further down there was no breaking through whatever crust was on there. South Ramp was $$. |
