Is anyone wearing them and if so what types? My boy got splatter pretty hard recently and its got me thinking we might need to be looking for some for the two of us!

PS: Helmets are worth their weight and cost IMHO.

i went to my dentist and had a full custom mouth guard made. it fits so well, i dont even know its in my mouth, ive had some big crashes, and it totally helped.

other wise there are the cheap hockey mouthguards that you warm up in hot watter and form to your mouth. they work, but not the best.

The doc visits have been many and yeilded lots of fallout. Left orbital issue, neck, back and ankle strains (wearing a collar) and a sever concussion. Helmet did its job and is now toast - worth every penny (note to self buy the best) as was the heli ride off the hill - scary way to get that ride.

I'll be talking to the dentist and I'm looking at 661 & other mtb gear, horse riding vests and overall d30.com gear.

I'll keep ya posted. Body protection just got bumped up interms of a priority in my little book of to dos! Thanks Paul C.

If you are looking for a quality mouthguard that also has a cool look you should check out www.customguards.com. same thing you get from a Dentist at a fraction of the cost.

I wear upper body armor from skeletools. It's older, pretty good, but it's really hot and bulky. Has a nice spine protector. I also use the cya shorts from rock gard'n. Those have (literally) saved my ass several times. Twice now I've been flying through the air thinking that my day, if not my month, is definitely over when I hit the ground, and have come away unscathed.

I'm probably going to upgrade my upper-body stuff next season.

wear motocross upper armor by azonic really nice spine protection ; cya pants from rockgardn and rollerblade knee pads. i prefer full face helmet. they are bit hard to spot landings but face on rails or ice isn't very fun.

Picked up some skeletools uppers and lowers waiting to see how it works out. Both the boy and myself like to wear thin so we'll see how it goes with thin shells. The girl gets cold easier so I'm thinking she'll be pleased. We'll post on the out come.
Next on the list high end mouth guards and looking at some kind of light / small slalom type face pro.
Boy JUST got released for light skiing - not full on. Hoping for that in Mid Dec.
Protect those nogg'ns - a serious concusion can really shave your skiing (and other sport) buzz!

are you talking mostly about wearing these for like big burly extreme lines or in the park??
cause either way i feel they are completely unnecessary and body armour would definitely restrict movement

...the intent is for jib'n in the park and bump runs (with arials).

Based on the fact as to how bad my son was splatter I disagree that protect is un-need.

As a former patroller I've seen enough park time to think that body armor has its place. Just for dings don't to mention when you come up short (I know... do it or don't attempt it... but "IT" does happen!)!

Oh course wearing armor is a personal preference - just like wearing helmets or seat belts.

But I don't think it really restricts movement - any more so than bulky gear on cold days. I'm actually hopeful that the gear will replace some of that bulk.

Again my kid caught "big ground" last March and only now (end of October) was released to take part in sports of any kind (frink'n hard on a 13 year old and beleive me harder on his parents - worrying if he would be the same, PT to get him back, bills, bills and bills, etc.).

In our house helmets rule (saved his life). We wear them moto-x, climbing, kayaking, biking, etc. - what sport do we go fast in and crash hardest in... skiing!

We each make our own choices - we've made choices based on our life experiences and feed back from others. Hope this helps in understanding where we are coming from! Paul C.

Darn .... outted! LOL Figured most folks would go WTF if I posted canoeing (with a helmet Confused )! Make sure you plan for some spring run off runs up my way! The Canadians will be coming down and they usually are game to run the "stuff"!

Oh and ya missed Telepaloozia stud… lots of fun and solid clinics. Let me know if you head my way on the sticks so we can go turn! I'm off to NY this weekend with the kids for a mogul comp.

661 rail knee and shin guards and Reds impact shorts, they have hard shell hip protector. Have saved many a knee bashing with the 661's and have been glad to have the shorts cause once in a while a will hip check on a park jump landing(usually from spin tricks) I dont wear any upper body protection but all the stuff I wear is fairly thin and does not restrict any movement, I hardly know its there. Even forget about it when wearing gear at the bar. I wear a helmet most of the time but have been slacking lately on the helmet usage. I think armour usage depends on the rider. Im 34 and am still pushing myself and going for it in park and elsewhere. I want to be able to minimize injury and be able to ride at a high level for as long as possible. Wouldnt have dreamed of it when I was 17 or 20 though,l dont really think I needed it then. Definately would never have saved the broken leg or shoulder in those days. I was thinking about one of those spine protector shirts but those seem like they WOULD be uncomfortable and restrict some movement. Besides I think taking to much precaution is just jinxing yourself for an injury..... maybe Im just superstitious. Smile

There are a lot of company's that are coming out with great protection. The one i use most is the Back protector. The ski companies that produce them are www.sweetprotection.com , www.pocski.com/, and www.sixsixone.com. It keeps me warm and i can fall hard and get right back up and hit some more rails or jumps. I wear it every day.
