so the ford transit is coming long, getting the motor and sterring taken care off etc etc et

now I would loike to get some kind of music machine going.

Think of 6 hour drives to slovakia's one and only tele party with a great international mix of people and no tunes.

the rid eup is fine, everybody is talking and being merry.

the ride back I drive thorugh blizzards and others sleep... not the whole time but they sleep..

and music and/or news sure would have helped me stay awake...

so when comparign all the car steroes out there what do you oflks take into consideration.

I kno wit is imposible to get the beast soudning good becuase it is big and has a tractor engine, ie. loud diesel,

all I wnat is just to be able to hear some news and tunes.... not a full on surround sound experience.

Price. Cool

I think you go down to the local Circuit City and see which sounds best.

What features do you want?

I must have separate treble and bass controls, a "loudness" button and ....this is key and not very common...an headphone jack.

I am not to concerned with the features... I was told by a friend who is very into this car hifi stuff that I either spend all the money I make in a year to get a system set up that sound good in the van or I just get the cheapest thing that I can here over the engine noise...

I have to 10 cm speakers installed, they came with the van.

I have no intentions of getting speakers put in back.

If I had the funds I would worry about the whistles and bells, ie trebble and bass etc etc etc and listen to opera on the road, best music for driving.

But I really just want sg to be able to hear the news, road reports and some occasional music, which I can suply on CD.

Baaaahb, why a head phone jack? Isn't it ilegal to use head phons in the car?

Keither, alpine.... never seen their stuff here...

The choices I got are bosch, jvc, lg, sony at the local Circuit City look alike shop and all kinds of specialty brands at the specialists.....

go to Crutchfield.com.

They will sell you a moderately priced car stereo.
More importantly they will sell you the harness or wire connector you need for your model of car. And specific instructions for removing the dash and installing the radio in your model car.

I purchased a new stereo for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has an easy dash to remove and took me a total of about 2 hours to install the stereo. I am not a car stereo installation expert or wizard.

Did I mention that they will send the stereo with the adapter you need for fitting the hardware in your dash also.

Good Luck!

Not sure...local rules probably vary. I don't like listening to the radio that much, but my wife and daughter do....

or if you're driving and others are trying to sleep...

but DON'T DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL

When I installed the last stereo I included a cable connecting to the back of the car stereo and having an 1/8th Stereo Headphone male jack for audio Input. Input use was intended for an Ipod, but it would hook up to any portable player.

The cable was a $5.00 Belkin RCA to Stereo headphone adapter.

You could easily order the above cable and a car stereo for $100 or less USD...

If you just want output hit the nearest online etailer and order the cheapest stereo from a manufacturer you consider reputable.

I chose Panasonic. I wouldn't hesitate to buy Alpine, Sony, or various other major name brands...

Get drunk.

Make someone else drive.

It's cheaper.
