Anyone ever watch this?
I would say for it to be so highly thought of by these guys must mean it is good propaganda for the war.
Quote:
"I am literally in awe of the creativity of the brains behind the program," said conservative talk radio icon Rush Limbaugh, who moderated the panel. "The vice president's a huge fan. Secretary (Donald) Rumsfeld's a huge fan."
Conservatives are usually rather disdainful, at least officially, of Hollywood's productions, which they view as often being liberal dreams (see: "West Wing") or propaganda (see: MTV). Since its debut a few weeks after 9/11, however, "24" has managed not only to climb to the top of the ratings, but to build a serious conservative fan base that reaches the highest echelons of the U.S. government.
I think from a realistic stand point "The Unit" is much more accurate, but who cares about accuracy?

Conservative lovefest for '24'?
Ironic considering Kiefer Sutherland is Tommy Douglas' grandson. He once narrated an introduction to Douglas' famous anti-capitalist fable The Story of Mouseland for a cartoon produced by the NDP. The video was on the front page of the party's website in the run-up to the last election.
Kiefer Sutherland wrote:
My politics are mine. I believe in due process. I believe in civil rights, both of which Jack Bauer runs rampant over. (The torture) is a dramatic device, and it is not to be confused with how we handle things in the real world.
For that matter, if you watch '24', you will find that the politics are not especially conservative. The writers have had villains from the left and right. It's violent, it's anti-terrorist, and it gets a bit boring after a few episodes.
They love it for the same reason most of the Pro-war types here would love it. It gives em a sense of machoism that they could never find in the real world. Pop the corn, hit the remote, and pretend you're a real GWB type action hero!! No thoughts needed to enjoy. _________________ I'm not the expert on how the Iraqi people think, because I live in America, where it's nice and safe and secure. GWB-2004

It's my favorite show. I don't really think of it as "political". Lots of action, and the main plot and subplots end in cliff-hangers every week. Heck, this season even ended in a cliff-hanger.
Any real scrutiny of it should reveal that it shouldn't be taken too seriously. _________________ Montani Semper Liberi

Trivia
A Trek newcomer, he was brought into the third season of "Enterprise" (2001) to help tighten up the writing. So far, he seems quite successful, bringing much (needed) energy into the third season. Of the current prominent writing staff (Rick Berman, Brannon Braga, Chris Black, Mike Sussman, Andre Bormanis) he only seems to lose to Sussman, who wrote more winners.
During the third season he was mainly responsible for further constructing the Xindi story arc which he based on experiences from his cancelled show "Odyssey 5" (2002) (ref. lone crew, saving mankind, Earth destroyed/attacked etc.). When showrunner Brannon Braga retired in 2004, he took over as showrunner.
Took over as showrunner of "Star Trek: Enterprise" starting with season 4, when creators/executive producers Rick Berman & Brannon Braga stepped back a little bit. His writing successes in season 3 and his experience in the day-to-day production routine of producing a sci-fi show (ref. "Odyssey 5") made him the perfect candidate to become new head writer.

Eric L. Haney
Mini biography
For more than twenty years, Command Sergeant Major (retired) Eric L. Haney served in the Army's most demanding combat units: as a Combat Infantryman, as a Ranger, and ultimately, as a founding member of the Army's super secret counter-terrorist arm, Delta Force.
During his eight years in Delta Force, Haney pursued terrorists from Hamas to Hezbollah. He has worked with all levels of Arab society, from the tents of Bedouin tribesmen to the salons of the Paris Ritz with the Saudi Royal Family. All told, Haney has more than two decades experience in the Middle East and North Africa and few outsiders are as intimate with Arab/Islamic thought, culture, and history as he is.
In retirement, Haney worked throughout the Middle East and Latin America, protecting princes, presidents, and CEOs. He led the detail that returned President Bertrand Aristide to Haiti. He has negotiated with Latin American guerrillas for the safe return of hostages and provided security for international oil companies operating in the most dangerous regions on earth. He has also worked with a group of fellow ex-Delta commandos to rescue American children kidnapped around the world.
Today, Haney is a frequent commentator for national radio and television news programs from the O'Reilly Factor to Inside Edition and Larry King Live. He has appeared on CNN, Fox Network, and CBS network news.
In 2003, Haney met and worked with Pulitzer Prize-winning writer/director David Mamet on Mamet's film, Spartan, starring Val Kilmer. The success of that relationship led to Haney, Mamet, and Shawn Ryan (creator of The Shield) working together to create a television show based on "Inside Delta Force."
He is the author of "Inside Delta Force: The Story of America's Elite Counter-terrorist Unit," and now a writer, producer, and technical adviser for the CBS television series based on his book. That show, called "The Unit," will premiere in January 2006.
