*these historic maps do not represent current facilities, conditions or difficulty of ski runs at Berthoud Pass and are intended solely for relative overview. Ski safe and enjoy!

Somewhere around I have an actual map and if you can arrange a scan could get floral stuff too.

OK, Lemon Boy sent me his trail map and I scanned it. Below are small images of each complete side of the trail map. Click on either image to download a 200 dpi scan suitable for printing (the original is roughly 9x16 inches, so you'd have to scale it down just a bit to print on legal size paper).

Below are links to blown-up, high resolution scans of the individual maps shown in the opening post, plus the Floral Park map. These will print at 10" wide, 200 dpi, for the older, visually challenged folks like me. Razz

Aerial View

Current Creek

Pumphouse Basin

West Side

Floral Park

Hell's Half Acre

NOTE: Each image is over 2MB each.

To see some high-resolution panorama photos I've shot of Pumphouse Basin, Current Creek, and Second Creek, go to this thread & scroll down about six posts.

Anyone have an older map from the early 80's? If I remember it had a "future expansion" area in current creek where they thought they would/could put a lift. Of couse that never happen.

There's also a new book called Berthoud Pass skiing, or Backcountry Skiing Berthoud Pass, that's a great reference. Lots of photos, difficulty and avy ratings, tips for finding great tree runs etc. I got it at Neptune, and it's around $25

Wasn't there a guy who used to sell poster sized topo maps with the runs marked? I'd love to pick one of those up.

The book is called Backcountry Skiing Berthoud Pass and is by Jordan Lipp. I too saw it at Neptune, paged through it, and found it to be super comprehensive and smartly written enough to spend nineteen bucks on it. It has topo maps of the entire area as well as info on skill levels, vertical, (approximated) snow stability, hucking potential, etc. An excellent resource for anyone new to the pass, and one that has definitely helped me find some new and exciting routes as well; the maps and photos are pretty awesome to have compiled into one book. If only my roommate's dog hadn't eaten the cover the day I brought it home...sigh....

Thanks Brent, that's awesome!

Check out Doug Scott's http://www.AvalancheMapping.org for an always expanding list of very functional topo maps that identify standard, known avy paths.

His rendering of Berthoud Pass can be found here: http://avalanchemapping.org/IMAGES/Bpastopoweb.pdf

High quality prints of these maps can be purchased very inexpensively at Doug's website or through Friends of Berthoud Pass.

I did it once, it was pretty self-explanatory. The top part was nice (but be careful, some serious avy prone slopes), but overall I am not sure it was worth the time it took.

Its crazy to see how big the whole scene has gotten there in the last 5 years. At least they're plowing the parking lot still. I remember powder days hitching the first and second switchbacks with 4-6 other people. Now its more like 20-30. At least thats what we saw when we drove in. Very fun, but sad in the same.

It was wayyyyy to much fun when the lifts where running...
