DP Friday AM on Pink Pine Peak. Triggered 6 inches deep by 15' wide small sluff avalanche on main chute off top with ski cut on 35 degree angle slope. A little dicey.

Lower should off PPP was more moderate and stable.

Skied an east facing 36-40 degree aspect near 8600 feet today in Lambs (looking around to see how the lower elevations are filling in) Snow depth is 58 inches and suprisingly consolidated and stable. Was sort of expecting facets/sugar near the ground but didn't really find any. There are two obvious ice layers in the snowpack there with the more prominent one 36" down. I got a pretty clean shear (I can't remember all the ratings) after the 5th tap from the elbow. Broke on some graupel that was sitting on top of the ice layer.

Corinces are quite sensitive but are only affecting the top layer of snow after breaking and sliding down the slope we were looking at.

After a bit of discussion with my touring partner we put down some enjoyable tracks. No sloughing or other instabilities noted. We did have to dodge 3 moose on the descent.

Mellow morning of meadow skipping with an old friend.

COMMANDERBAKER check your PMs. I'd be interested in hooking up for dawn patrols on the split.

anyone want to fess up to the booter up the Y today?

skied west hellgate predawn. the W & SW aspects held good snow but the SE was anything from zipper crust to full on break thru and hold you. some movement in the snow when overcutting a previous track. ~8" at the interface. btw, sorry to those that followed my line today. the landing wasn't as soft as i hoped it would be.

fyi, south winds appeared to be loading coalpit headwall pretty well this evening.

Why do you think I need to 'fess up' to anything? Went up there to take a look at Coalpit, looked wind-copulated, so we skied a chute into coalpit gulch. We then skinned back up towards the top of the Y and skied a good line into Hogum from the ridge.
Any day spent booting and skiing variable snow in high-angle terrain (real mountians) is better than skipping through low-angle 'pow' with a bunch of clowns chasing your track.

Wull, uh, if this

WINTER STORM WATCH LATE SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT... A PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL SPREAD INLAND DURING THE DAY SATURDAY, BEFORE MOVING THROUGH THE REGION LATE SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY. SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE LATE TONIGHT THROUGH THE DAY SATURDAY IN ADVANCE OF THIS STORM SYSTEM. LIGHT SNOW MAY DEVELOP AS EARLY AS SATURDAY AFTERNOON...HOWEVERSNOW IS NOT EXPECTED TO BECOME SIGNIFICANT UNTIL SATURDAY NIGHT. STORM TOTALS OF 18-24 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED BY SUNDAY NIGHT WITH UP TO 36 INCHES NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION.

comes to pass, the ymaster may want a pair of depends for booting up the y for a coupla days.
