saw it at the Best of Banff Mountain Film Festival last night. The footage not in Whistler is from my local park where we XC... pretty cool to see our local trails on the silver screen!

Wow, mad skillz. Laughing Brought back memories. I raced xc in HS. Most grueling thing I've ever done. Until, that is, i started road biking. Sad I think they are the same people; long, lean, no body fat, huge heart/lungs. I used to puke after every race in HS. There was no such thing as skating. Now they call what i did "classic" racing. Shocked

They certainly are the same guys (and gals) around here... I think it's caus' they have a particular affection for lycra. Rolling Eyes

Gatineau Park is a great place to xc ski (there's even a little lift served area there too) and bike (road and mtn). I've got to get out and explore the bc options soon. The only thing is, the hills are a little short...

This is at least the second person to say that the star of the vid in the O/P is young, but does anybody know his age? It wouldn't surprise me if he's not really that young.

Going back to the original vid...
Info says:
Quote:
first half with XC skis - "tree-run" using light weight underfoot. second half with telemark skis (& Scarpa T3 boots), mainly small radius turns. Showing how edging should be done using agile low-cut boots.
or something like that...

Just been looking through His [Hiroshi Ishikida's] telemark ski school website... and it reads interesting.

His motto is "Effortless Telemarking"... and starting with small radius turns and disregarding rhythms... Surprised

Very pretty skiing, but - as Grant said - those aren't skinny skis and those aren't x-c slippers...just sayin....light gear indeed but there is at least one more step lighter...and people who can lay turns on them....

But very nice and very fluid, with a number of different skiing styles demonstrated. Oh, to have young legs!

Anyone figure the boot/bindings on the wide skis?

Get a helmet, dude! Laughing

Look like SNS BC of some type--Salomon trademark on the bindings.

As one who owned E99s w/ SNS-BC, I find the control with the boot/binding more impressive that the "skinny" skis. That sh!t does not forgive if you get even a little off balance.

Balance. This guy has it like a snow leopard. And fitness. Say what you will about the integrity of his gear, this guy's prowess begins and ends with his incredible balance and fitness. Plus a pretty solid attitude.

I just watched the video again and I can tell ya the skier is not preasuring his shin against the cuff of the leading ski. According to the experts on this site the guy is doing it wrong. He must be very lucky to ski so well with poor teqnique. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

You have to have a cuff to pressure first.

What I don't get is how can he ski with such a neutral binding and not at least 110 underfoot. Shocked
