nice run down the narrow chute, you don't get claustrophobic in there do you? _________________ It's all about fun.... |

"Sproing" is right! Talk about pre-loading for the turn - he's leaning out almost perpendicular to the (45 degree??) snow surface!

I would like to second JW's post. You really show your love for that part of the country in your Trip Reports. Fantastic, Eric. Keep them coming! _________________ Home Is Where Your Skis Is |

Thanks all -- and I will keep 'em coming. Wait 'til you see what is still "in the can" from this Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday got posted first, out of order, since it was the easiest sequence.
That pre-sproing shot is like a lost cousin to Matt R's avatar pic. Paul Lutes, you're about right; it was low-40s.
And now I gotta go mount & tune for a bit.
By the way, this is my old camera, the one I stopped carrying for a year because it was too heavy. My latest acquisition, a $20 (used) ski pack, has room for it, and I usually come back with a spare quart of water anyway, so I figured damn the weight and I'll start bringing it again. Now I have a chip in the wide-angle lens so I need to do something about that. It would be tough to give up the wide-angle ability. |

Thanks, Eric!
Your trip reports have always been an inspiration, both in posting my own, and wanting to visit the Sierras.
I'm thinking now, maybe we should postpone our trip to the SW this fall, wait till next spring, and tack some extra time on to spend skiing in your neck of the woods.
Sure would make for a full vehicle though, adding the ski stuff to the bikes, camping gear etc.
Looking forward to the next one. |

| I went back today and skied the line that splits the Ruby Wall! I won't have time to show and tell for a day or two. It was CRAZY! |

... and I'm not talking about the nice run from that notch at right! I mean the long one just left of center, super skinny, and you can just barely see that it has a rock & ice section about 200 feet above the skirt.
Mitch: cool, I'll look forward to seeing you. Sorry I can't get out on the weekends.
Dave and BCrider, sorry I forgot to answer earlier: you can drive to the pack station, so that's about one mile before the Mosquito Flats trailhead. The current dead-end parking is directly below excellent chutes on Pointless Peak. Incredibly accessible, fun terrain. |

Eric - I gave my avatar to Barbara, since she liked it so much. The question was from her. If a hacker broke into TTips and swapped around all of the avatars, that would be very confusing.
If you want to borrow a video camera to shoot one of your adventures, let me know.
Tell Bill Cox that Urmas lent me the videotapes from the clinics and I am working on a DVD of them. There is some awesome footage. One shot of seven skiers (including Bill) in formation all making synchronized telemark turn after turn is amazing. _________________ AIBOHPHOBIA - Fear of palindromes |
