I have been x-country skiing about 10 years and would like to switch to telemark. I am on a tight budget, so when I went to REI's website, I was happy to find that one could MX 7s for a fairly cheap price ($205) . Next question- are these skiis any good? I have seen alot of reviews on TM: 22s but none on MX 7s. Any thoughts? I want to be able to ski around my yard, local sledding hills as well as mountains. Is this a good ski for the job? Thanks for any help.

No personal experience on MX7's, but I think they are made to be a light AT-ski.

A good starter Tele-ski would be something like Atomic TM18 or K2 Super Stinx. Then there is also quite cheap Hagan-skis (MEC at Canada sells 'em).

They are indeed a light AT type ski, but are also marketed as a beginner tele ski. I haven't skied it, but I did check it out in a shop. It seemed well built. It would probably be a good choice for a forgiving soft flexed ski. Better for lower speed and should turn fairly well with that flex.

As far as a dirt cheap deal on a "beginner tele ski," you should check ebay. Right now, you can get a pair of Karhu Dharma for a very low price. This was their soft flex tele ski from a couple of years ago. It's a nice forgiving ski. Turns well, skis most conditions pretty good. It is not a high speed ski, but you don't need that if you are just learning.
