Or: How we didn't find what we were looking for but still had fun trying. PWDR8's, surf88 and RR go to check their Gnarl Factor and ski a waterfall in very deep snow

PWDR8S wrote:
...I think temps and wind may be important to mention.... conditions were harsh but not unbearable... It was -10 at the base of the tram last I looked before going up and again upon our return to the PWDR8S mobile. At the top I recorded a steady 19-20mph wind + guts up to 35 I think... we didn't get gusted thankfully but the steady wind was enough to flee into the trees.

According to the charts, we were pushing -35 to -42 windchills just with the steady 20MPH! Brrrrrrr!

My finger is still slowly returning to normal function.

I forgot to add that I think my Brunton was either reading -13F or -18F at the summit under the tower which means the windchill was much colder!

Looks great! Post it. Only, You forgot to add the picture of you falling near the trail junction.

Driving Up

Riding Up

Walking up

Going the wrong way

Going the right way

Two guys throwing sign

One guy ready for adventure

Skinning in the snowshoe track in 3 feet of snow

Taking a break while buttsliding

Skiing a steep hiking trail with skins on should be easier, right?

skinning up a 35 degree slope in 4+ feet of snow

Taking a breather...

...two hours from back there

back to work, slogging through what was left of ten feet of snowdrift

..that's worth the price of admission, right there!

Snow goblins...yup that's over 5 feet of snow folks

Looking around and realizing the we are nowhere near what we were looking for, we decided to look for a drainage and PWDR8S found this trail...

which we followed to find:

looking up...

surf88 on a 30 degree slope, bogged down in deep pow, on a really big snowboard...REALLY, IT WAS THAT FRIGGING DEEP!

surf88 setting up to drop a ledge

RR below the drop

and below another one

taking a break @5:30PM, while following moose tracks to get out (it worked!)

back at Icebeard's car @ 6:30, 8 hours after starting a "Slackcountry" day

I call those kind of things stupid adventures. "Hey, is anyone up for a really stupid adventure? I sorta have an idea where we're going, but really don't know we'll get there or how this will work out. You have a headlamp right?" The amazing thing is, people still say,""yeah, sure, that sounds like fun, let's go!"

Suckers Wink

Thing is, stupid adventures are often the best kind...

Why are there so many trees on those runs? Doesn't that make it hard to ski?

Just arrived home from a trip to Lake Tahoe with Rider Steve and the boyz, after skiing wonderful NE conditions there (i.e. icy and/or spring mashed) for 5 days, this after leaving the 5 foot dump ("belly deep" as telerob texted from Jay Crying or Very sad ) AND driving through a major dump at Tahoe to catch our flight home, I can say that this TR gave me just the snicker I needed tonight.

Well suffered gentlemen.

You are most kindly welcome, and, I believe I speak for the others because we did indeed suffer, thank you Smile

Waitaminute! Hadn't you not yet skied out west before this season? And you got it twice in a month's time? Spoiled!
