Hey, long time no read, seks! How was the Idahoan adventure. Sorry I missed ya, just to much good skiing to be had here in the "backyard". Any way, your non sequitur, nonsensical humor is, as always, appreciated (although I'd be obliged to receive a cogent thought from time to time as well). _________________ The unforgivable crime is soft hitting. I suspect you are not laughing with me, nonetheless I do not need a lesson as to who these folks are. These "progressives" simply wish to steal more money from some in order to grow the federal government and in so doing redistribute enough to others to gain their vote (how's that progressive Great Society welfare state working out for ya?). I do applaud them for distancing themselves from the "liberal" label. Of course they do so because of the unfortunate and inaccurately applied pejorative connotation the term "liberal" has taken on in recent years.
This current brand of democrat is neither progressive or liberal. They are simply Democrats (formerly known as "new liberalism"). _________________ The unforgivable crime is soft hitting. Do not hit at all if it can be avoided; but never hit softly. - Theodore Roosevelt

I'm definately not interested given that cogent thought is lost on your game theory "discussion" style. I have no desire to participate in a verbal sporting activity, especially with someone as beligerant as you, schnookums. I'm sure there are others here who enjoy your long-winded banter... I ain't one of 'em.
Oh, and you may want to speak to your tag team bud Willy Boy about non sequiturs and ad hominem, eh? Or does he get a free pass because he's of the same ideological bent as you, oh sage of the circular logic?

In need of another vacation already, eh? Calm down, breathe in and stop taking yourself so seriously. _________________ The unforgivable crime is soft hitting. Do not hit at all if it can be avoided; but never hit softly. - Theodore Roosevelt

It's not a zero sum game. The social safety net improves labor liquidity, so it has an expansionary component. Some money spent for the social safety net allows the economy to grow faster. Investing in education, infrastructure, healthy people and safe neighborhoods also makes us more productive. Spending money for the common good is good investment.

Social security is, hands down, the most successful government program ever, so, yea, working out pretty good. I'm way down with respect to distributions versus contributions, but all in all, I think most of the money our government collects provides good value. Nice place we got here in our country, in spite of the poor decisions we've seen lately. _________________ When all is said and done, it makes great toast!

Fair enough. What's the limit? Do we tax and spend at the federal, state, and local level enough yet? If more is needed how much more? Hell, why not just take all wage earnings and dole out what's "needed" to the wage earner after all "common good" needs are dealt with?

Sorry, champ. You've got your nanny state revivals mixed up. It was FDR's New Deal that brought about social security, not LBJ's Great Society.
Back to welfare, if it was so grand, then why did WJC go along with the GOP and significantly reform it? I mean, it it wasn't broke, why did he have to go and fix it?
As if that wasn't funny enough, he calls it "the most successful government program ever"! That Bill Gates will receive a social security check for as much as 20-30 years clearly demonstrates your point. So, does that mean you believe it is solvent for decades, maybe centuries to come? That has got to be the most foolish series of statements you've ever made.

Especially the yummy kool-aid that comes with your morning talking points, eh?
What's the waste ratio these days? For every dollar that goes to Washington $.20 goes to "good value"? _________________ The unforgivable crime is soft hitting. Do not hit at all if it can be avoided; but never hit softly. - Theodore Roosevelt
Sad, for everyone.

However, since so many have rushed to judgement and the fact that we don't have one of these threads, thought I'd throw this red meat out for your consumption.

I am going to be pedantic here and point out that the case referenced by TeleAl is not the Haditha case referred to by Otis.
The Abeer Qassim al-Janabi case is more disturbing than Haditha because it was pre meditated rape and murder, as opposed to Haditha which took place in the heat of battle.
Quote:
Wuterich and three other members of his infantry squad with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines from Camp Pendleton, Calif., are charged with murder in the Nov. 19, 2005, deaths of two-dozen Iraqis in the town of Hadithah in the hours after a roadside bomb detonated, killing one Marine. Four other battalion members, including the commander, face dereliction of duty charges for an alleged cover-up of the squad’s actions that day.
“This is not a typical military case,” Zaid wrote in a Feb. 20 email he widely distributed. “It has become highly politicized and, in our opinion, these young Marines are being sacrificed for foreign policy reasons.”
“There is, in fact, far more at stake here than just eight Marines who have been charged with crimes arising from actions taken that day,” Zaid added. “Indeed, the system, and some may even say the war, is on trial.
