With T.Pass mostly wind slammed I noticed this small feature to he north of Girls Mt. as a possible nice tour away from avy hazards everywhere else. I busted trail about 1/2 way on Sunday and there was very nice powder skiing with about 10% breakable here and there. Then it snowed another 4" at 0F yesterday. Found my trail and pushed the line up to the summit area, around lots of cornice debris and kept angles under 35. About 3000' and 3.5 hours RT. I was smiling of course, feeling lucky to have found the stash. Seems a good place to head tommorrow. I think it was my first time on this little mountain, having typically opted for Girls Mt Glacier and summite area instead.

Off to the south on the otherside of the Worthington Glacier I got a great angle of the gendarme on Sapphire Peak. Been to that place.. Cool . Its wicked....

So under rare and untimate sunny skies, with the temp lingering at -10F, it was time to ski it upThat only rock is a Safety Station, where I had a snack and absorbed the SUN!!!

This little problem was telenirvana in deep powder. Best, longest, deepest, fluffiest day of the year....so far.

Yes we can!!amongst other options. Hopefully it will not be -10F.
-6F here at the Chalet and -19F on the Pass this am. Clear and stars galore. Incredible quiet.

Moose are back in the yards also. Saw a big one with antlers walk by my stairs this am. He was very big and suprised the snot out of me. Never been so close to one with antlers....say 10 feet..whew.

Then he proceded to punch-hole up my snow trails. Shocked

How much daylight are you getting this time of year VT? I;m just wondering how that effects how you plan a longer tour.

Looks REALLY cool. I have an old girlfriend in Girdwood and I keep saying I'm going to come up and visit... Wink

Sunrise 9:30 Sunset 3:30. Thompson Pass gets good sun cause its up high and has plenty of south aspects to get something nice. I am pretty much on my skiis by 10am, done by 2pm as far as training or just fun. 10 am qualifies as dawn patrol......allows for more caffeine. On this run, I was pushing the envelope a bit cause its back in there a ways, but ideal conditions made it happen.

Some "full day' routes just have to wait due to being more than 4hrs on a RT, So I do the runs closest to the trailhead that are quick ascents this time of the year.

Great TR! As usual, nice pix that leave me salivating! How 'bout a season long thread for the Valdez area?

A good friend is talking about doing a trip up there around March/April, If it materializes we'll have to hook up for a tour.
