I frankly haven't read much about what other world leaders PRIVATELY think of GWB. My guess is the leaders of Western Europe and that offshore island are glad that he's taking a big, loud stand. Having a big loud American President strutting his stuff makes their jobs soooooo much easier. They can be leftist and humanitarian and mellow and middle ground while letting the big guy take most of the criticism.

I really doubt this. I have a feeling that they realize that nobody benifits from Armageddon, unless you are an evangelical who thinks this is a wonderful thing. The situation is escalating in the direction of an increasingly large war. A third world war with the west against the Islamic world would not be a good thing for either side and could result in a serious decrease in world population. In a world war against Islam, the Muslims would probably be able to get their hands on quite a few nukes between Pakistan and Muslim majority portions of the former Soviet Union.

I hope that this is science fiction, however this is the direction that our president's policies are bringing us.

Everybody agrees that no one benefits from Armageddon. That's not what the debate is about.

As to the situation escalating towards war....the Middle East has been on a roller coaster escalating towards world war for many, many years. And, as each year goes by, the stakes get larger and larger due to the spread of WMD technology.

Short summary of neocon strategy: Better to get this thing solved today, even if it takes us to the brink, than wait another ten years.

This is exacly where neocons are fooling themselves. If history has proven anything it is that one war doesn't prevent the next war. One war just provides the fertile ground for the next. England and France had great fun throughout the 100 year war, did this solve anything? No, they just continued to have periodic wars into the 19th century. The only wars that really prevent future wars successful wars of complete genocide.

A resolution of disputes and open communication between parties would be much more successful.

Exclamation

Yes, it would be better if the disputes would be resolved. You are the KING of conclusory statements.

Open comunication between the parties has not worked for a 100 years...but, maybe tomorrow?

Correct me if I am wrong Shocked, but it does not look like Hezbollah and Hamas want to sit down and sing kumbaya.

The communication is pretty clear - they and their sponsors want the Israelis to "cease to exist" and Israel says that does not work for them. I have not heard anyone forward a single serious proposal that would ge around the main point of the dispute.

I am not a GWB fan but he did grasp the concept that "Tehran pulls the strings to Damascus and they pull the strings to H&H" and was able to express it in a manner that left no room for misunderstanding.

Israel was not the subject of my posts. The inefectiveness of GWB is what I am refering to, along with his inabilities as a statesman.

As for Israel, I understand some of their actions but consider many of them to be quite unwise. While I don't consider Hezbollah and Hamas to be the appropriate groups to enter into a discussion with, there are moderate factions which have been marginalized by Hamas and Israel which are now very fragmented. And group punishment of Palestinians by Israel has been a major source for creating support for Hamas.
