The Vermont Ski Museum has asked me to put together what could be the first exhibit of it's kind showing the evolution of Telemark ski gear from the 1970's forward. I thought this forum rich with old timers and steadfast opinions would be a good place to start.
Which bindings, boots, and skis do you think best represent the technical evolution of our sport ? Heck I know some of you are still skiing on some of this gear. _________________ www.telemarknato.com |

Hey Dickie, You want my Kazama Couloirs? They have the version One, Three Pin Cable CRB. For the museum, they would be free! _________________ "Moderate is not the new Low" - Chris Joosen, USFS Lead Snow Ranger (Tuckerman Ravine, White Mountains National Forest) |

I'd like to see the Alfa Model 1001 (ankle high with fake shearling lining - soft as butter) ski boot with the Troll 3-pin binding mounted on Bonna 2600 and and Epoke 900 skis.
Does anyone remember the Lopus (sp?) heel locator? You mounted a plastic protrusion onto the back of the heel of your boot and it slid down into a plastic V-notch that you'd mount onto your ski. It helped to keep the heels of your boots from sliding around on the top sheet of the ski for improved nordic downhill performance.
Of course the first generation Terminators, Rainey Super Loops... |

Take a trip into the consignment sales at IME and Ragged...between them it's practically all covered
PS. if you set up a charitable fund for the project I'm sure some of us would donate funds as well as gear. _________________ "Moderate is not the new Low" - Chris Joosen, USFS Lead Snow Ranger (Tuckerman Ravine, White Mountains National Forest)

Yes to all of the above plus...
The original Voile plate--game changer!
Kazama Mountain Highs--the first ski I could actually make a decent tele turn on
Rottefella 3pin binding with the orange bail that would pop free at the most inopportune times--God did they suck
Steincomps made from Asolo Snowpines and pickle buckets--another game changer
A mannequin dressed for tele with Holubar or Sierra Designs 60/40 jacket, thrift store woolen pants, dachstein mittent, army surplus rucksack with an avalanche cord wrapped around a dishsoap bottle, gaiters and kneepads on the outside, glacier glasses, and an alpaca hat.
On second thought, a wax model of SB or Rick Borcovic or Vic Bein would probably include all of those components. Grampatele surely has everything you need. _________________ that sounds like a sure-fire way to get bitch-slapped by devil's club -- dschane |

The surgical tubing Superloop.
The bungee cord Voile plate.
The yellow Erbachers.
Anything out of the Lovett/Trucker factory.
There was a year or two when Rotte Super Telemarks were made in a day-glo pink/yellow color scheme.
I've got some Savage Gear two-tone supergaiters if you think they're worthy. |

Very cool Robrox.... we are looking for donations which can be loaned to the museum for a year for the initial exhibit or gifted outright to be a part of the actual archive. Of course anyone who donates or gifts will be noted as a contributor. I was there last week and given a tour of the museum. They have amazing collections of Alpine. Nordic, and Snowboard gear but very little Tele gear, almost none. This is a great opportunity for us make sure the beginning and evolution of our sport and gear won't be lost. _________________ www.telemarknato.com |

Why wouldn't we want it to be? It's all pretty embarrassing. |

If I recall correctly, the Chouinard 3-pin was the first free-heel binding that you could actually put torque on and not snap the bale off. Simple but great; I still use them on some skis.
Asolo Snowfield was the first boot of its kind. Everything else evolved from that.
On a similar theme, I'd give the nod to an early flat-base Karhu XCD-GT. Nordic, metal edged, turned well: a combination that defined what was to come. |
