Mapadu,
One question for you, I don't quite understand the quote below. Could you possibly expand on it? Who is Euphora? No, but seriously, you saw the snow curling below you? How did this happen? Where you then in the middle, and you saw the mass you wer on sliding up above the "stable" snowpack below?

Frank, yes, you answered the question you asked.
If you look closely at a couple of those pictures you can see an area in the middle of the debris that hardly broke up at all. Look closer and there's a turning ski track on it. That piece of slab slid quite a bit without breaking up as I was tucking well above the spot that turn currently lies. |

GOOD ON YOU MAPADU!!!
I think the 25 deg 28 deg mistake is easy to make...reading the devices ain't so easy plus I wonder about measurement error in device. I brought this up during the Durand thread and somebody rained on my parade... _________________ It's all about fun.... |

While this incident was eyeballing being 7deg off, +-3deg is easy to make with a slopemeter and is something that absolutely must be considered every time. _________________ It is what I would do if it were me. It is not me and neither are you. |

Agreed! Geologists call it measuring dip v. apparent dip. If your slope measuring devise is not exactly aligned perpendicular to strike (a horizontal line through the inclined plane), you could be off by a few degrees. Those few degrees could make the difference between a slide and no slide. |

| Wow. You had me shaking. I'm so glad that this turned out well for both of you, and that you've shared it with us. I also missed it the first time. |

So, you ski alone much anymore in avalanche terrain? _________________ "She said, Boy, without a doubt, have to quit your mess and straighten out...you could die down here, be just another accident statistic." |
