This has always seemed like a combination open to problems.

Just imagine a perfectly clean mountain stream, take this water and put in a plastic bottle and everything seems good.

Now imagine this same stream with a bunch of plastic water bottles floating around in it, not so good.

It is an amazing waste of energy. It is said that most people that use bottled water have ready access to pure clean tap water but choose bottled instead. To the tune of end to end like 190 times around the earth just in the USA. Tremendous waste of energy.

Quote:
Combining all the energy input totals, Gleick and Cooley found that producing bottled water requires between 5.6 and 10.2 million joules of energy per liter, depending on transportation factors (a typical personal-sized water bottle is about 0.5 liters). That’s up to 2,000 times the energy required to produce tap water, which costs about 0.005 million joules per liter for treatment and distribution.

In 2007, US consumers purchased more than 33 billion liters of bottled water, or 110 liters (30 gallons) per person. The total energy required to produce 33 billion liters is equivalent to 32-54 million barrels of oil (although not all the energy used comes from oil). Energy to produce bottled water accounts for about one-third of one percent of total US energy consumption.

My water is interesting. Rocky Mountain spring water. I have been told it is collected into a large cistern where the water rights amount to how deep your pick up line is. The house we have is on the lead bleed connection, dates back to 1890 or something. The water is great, forms spikes when frozen, think that is pure driven. (Would honestly know how that works)

Always reuse bottles from soda or man made containers for water for drinking. It has no taste and tastes great, better or as good as any bottled water. Some times it seems hard to find a useable bottle, Is that a good sign?

Agreed. Small bottled water bottles are a big waste. So are big bottled water bottles that you often see at campgrounds.
