You say you want to ski the legendary powder at Alta. Well, so does everyone else. If you do manage to hit it on a big powder day, (and there is no guarantee you will) you will be fighting thousands of other people for it, and it will get tracked out fast. My experience skiing in the Alps is limited, but my personal impression is that the accessible terrain at any given ski center is vastly greater than Alta's, and competition for powder is minimal.

I say save your money and stay in Europe, if actual skiing is your main priority.

Another vote for skiing British Columbia. Contrary to others I found skiing in Italy more crowded than in the US, excluding XMAS holidays.

Of all the people on this site, doucheofcarl should be the last one talking about others spewing online, 3000+ posts since he was last banned less than two years ago. Laughing

At least Jim provided a data point, not just more euromanlove.

For a lot of people, 3 hours of dry Utah powder at Alta would be a dream come true, and leave many quite ski satisfied.

Of course we all can't be ski god snobs like doucheofcarl. Laughing

Carl, where do you ususally ski? Where's your home mountain? You act like you know everything about every ski area in the world, and yet you never post any pictures or share any stories of your latest adventures, just a lot of snark. And you are on here every copulating day and night, which would seem to leave little time for actual skiing. So what gives? Do you even ski anymore, or is your computer as close as you get to making some turns? Laughing

Ignore this miserable old crank and follow your heart. You'll have a great time telling all your friends and family about your trip to Alta and not only do you stand a good chance of scoring some outstanding Utah powder, you will have a cultural experience of a lifetime. Before you go be sure to read Delores LaChapelle's Deep Powder Snow.

Utah? The cultural experience of a lifetime? Is this parody? Like Cyrus calling me a snob for not liking Alta? I imagine most of his friends and family in Slovakia don't give a shit about Alta.

If your goal is powder skiing, flexibility and a car could get you there somewhere in the Alps from Slovakia. With less crowds and cost than Alta. Otherwise for a similar time in the air, and money spent, there are other places in the world with less competition. But whatever

My old man is better but I'm okay. I'll tell you what though carl, I'll match whatever you put up of yourself. Better yet, why don't we both hook up with the Ttips crew in Mammoth and have a Zoolander style ski-off!

I mean, you do ski, right?

Never ever.

Now, how about you give some useful advice to Milan? I mean, it was his thread, not a circlejerk for you.

That would be so cool! We would be totally stoked to host you guys. A place to stay, dinner, etc. Just one question: Which one of you would be Hansel?

Okay. Milan, never ever listen to doucheofcarl.

Come on carl, I just checked the Mammoth Mountain site and they are open through Memorial Day. I've got some vacation time and I'll drive out there if you'll show up.

I'll even promise not to tease you by wearing my tightest pair of jeans.

Carl seems to go by many names. Has anyone told Cyrus the nom de guerre over at TGR?

Well, I live in Tahoe and have thought about skiing the East Coast for the cultural experience. I would be disappointed if the snow did not suck!

Key words: "thought about" Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Don't go to Alta to ski deep powder unless you're going for a month. Too big a chance of being disappointed...you won't be happy unless you have two-foot deep powder days.

But, if going for the broader cultural experience....

Hah hah...I said a funny! cultural experience in Utah?????????????????????????????????????????

IMO...when you go to the Alps, you get the wonderful (you can put that in quotes if it makes ya feel better) Alps experience in the quaint hotels, restaurants, and pushy lift "lines".

Not sure what US cultural experience you are looking for..you'll certainly be able to mingle with the east coast effete at the Alta resorts...but consider doing the US right...i.e. a car trip over at least 2,000 miles, hitting up a bunch of places.
