Scotsman and I were looking at going up on Saturday. But he noticed that Glacier Chair is closed and much of the mountain is shut down. Anyone know how much? Is Saudan still open for skiing? Are you allowed to traverse from top of 7th over into the Gem bowls?
I.e. is it still worth skiing up there? |

With all do respect to Sylvan Saudan, It has been the "Couloir Extreme" for years now.
"Bushrat" and "Big Bang" will never change.
Have fun! _________________ "She said, Boy, without a doubt, have to quit your mess and straighten out...you could die down here, be just another accident statistic." |

| Why with respect to Saudan? He's the one that forced the name change. |

The mountain is pretty much entirely open on weekend's with the exception of Showcase and that's an easy skin up. We did this with the kids the other weekend and hit Bodybag and around to 7th.
If sunny, south exposures should be skied before noon/1:00. North holds well up high all day. Been a ghost town lately. I'd guess busier this weekend given the long weekend, but not that busy.
Lots and lots of skiing. Coverage is mind-blowing for this time of year. Or you could go ride the shovelled out ruts between snow banks called a bike park! _________________ "It's a strange world made up of extreme horizontal and vertical planes. Where you find diagonal, you find skiing."

Interesting. I mean, it's not extreme at all- and Saudan has skied hundreds of lines more complicated than that. I could see why he wanted it changed. _________________ "She said, Boy, without a doubt, have to quit your mess and straighten out...you could die down here, be just another accident statistic." |

| It was my understanding that he wanted money if they were going to name a run after him, which wasn't going to happen. So, not so much 'it wasn't extreme enough' as just being a douche. |

Hey, I learned something.
Terrible second-choice name though. |

What, no questions about the Bushrat John Hetherington reference?
Pfft.

What WH said... We skied last Saturday and Sunday and riding the Glacier Express numerous times I didn't see a soul hiking into Spanky's. So it may be closed and I gather WB has a strict policy on closures to the extent that they have withdrawn lift access to 12 people in the last few days for the rest of this season and all of next.

Snow was good for turns today: didn't soften too deeply, even on south sides. Lift openings depend on temps and day of the week. More open on weekends it seems and less southside open if the sun be shining brightly.
So, R2, is it Ross's Gold or Gandy Dancer? What's on the map isn't always what folks call a run it seems... |

Do you ride Red or Big Red Express?
Do you ride Green or Emerald?
Do you laugh at the beginners on Black or on Olympic?
Boundary Bowl or Rhapsody Bowl?
Care or not?
Not. _________________ "It's a strange world made up of extreme horizontal and vertical planes. Where you find diagonal, you find skiing."

Thank you again, WH. I completely agree with you.
(Twice now. That hurts)
PS: You forgot Back Bowl or Harmony Bowl? (I'm really dating myself there.)
We'll be up on Saturday for sure. Colin's Jack is coming too. Watch for us.
I'm staying up all next week to ski, cycle, and kayak. I hope to get 3-4 days in.
And it'll always be the Saudan to me. |
