Breck ski resort is replacing some old 4 person chairs.

Yesterday AM the old chairs were being given away (free) at North Gondola parking lot--you must remove/transport the chairs away.

Not sure how much one weighs, but I have an old 2 person chair; it is heavy and difficult to move because of the attachment arm.

Sorry but do not have any contact point/phone # or know how long this will last.

Man, I'd love one, but I'm not able to get out there this week. If anyone picks one up and has room for two, I could pick it up from you over the weekend, accompanied by a 12'r of your favorite beer.

I'll give two twelve packs to anyone who could drop one off at my house! Laughing

I just called Breck, and they said they are not giving away the chairs. Evidently there was an email about them, and the email was retracted shortly after it went out.

probably giving them to non-profits- chairlift chairs always seem to be big money makers at silent auctions

Does this mark the first wave of high-speed lifts needing replacement? There were never any 4-person fixed-grip chairs, were there?

This is probably how that chair lift was stolen in the Czech Republic.

I think it does. Stowe just replaced the Forerunner quad last summer, which was (I think) the first detachable quad in the east. It was built in '86.

They didn't give away the chairs for free either. Smile

When it comes to replacing first generation quad chairs.... Bachelor Butte tried to gerry rig the Pine Martin lift for years. They worked on it continually, it broke down all the time. They even resorted to handing out free passes to the people who frequently got stuck on that decrepit lift. In the end they replaced the entire chair a couple of years ago

oh yeah thanks for reminding me of that- I had a college pass at Stowe for the '86-87 season and used that chair I guess. I was thinking the first one I saw was when I moved west the next fall to ski bum and Telluride had installed Chair 10 that summer.

Gore has a detachable triple of about that vintage... however it gets low hours now.
