Only about 20 degrees but wide open for 700 vert. or so.

This is cool. Good find for you, but it gets me excited because I know this must be in the general zone that I ski, yet I have NO idea where this could be. I get really excited just thinking of all the lines out there I have yet to find. It's like an Easter Egg Hunt, just knowing they're out there is the best part Very Happy

Today's objective was to find some steeper lines than I have been finding recently. I succeeded. This line is probably an average of 35 degrees with several 45 degree drops like this.

The second line I found had fewer big drops--better for Pat and I. It's 1000 vert.

and again, super fun!
I do wonder, though, if I've skied one of these lines....I hope not Twisted Evil

Keep searching Smile

Favorite activity. Needs to be dry. There are some 2400' bumps I favor. Last fall I found the 'money' access route. Im less ambitious so my lines are shorter and less vert. This winter and my schedule didn't cooperate. So the project continues. Imaginary skiing.

All in all, a pretty uninspiring end to the season. On the plus side, I found a quarter. That brings my post-season haul to sixty cents, a bic lighter, and a PSIA pin. Whee!

Come on Dirk, wanna make it an even buck?! Laughing

Currently 30deg at the base of $teaux, 22deg at the summit. Their webcam isn't updating, but this is what the App Gap looks like

here's the smuggs base area

and the current radar has a bunch of blue of VT.
Lionel Hutz is saying 3-8" today.

That's worth hiking for! Very Happy

Carbo, the eternal optomist. Very Happy

I've got friends from Japan coming this weekend for some Lake Champlain salmon fishing. I hope they bring plenty of warm clothes.

2-3" of snow has fallen so far and the hill is all set for the last weekend of skiing and riding. The Triple will spin tomorrow from 10a-5p with skiing/riding for intermediate and advance abilities on the Jet and Haynes. Spend the day and ski for just $25 (all ages).

From MWAC

Weekend Update for April 27, 2012

12 Degrees, blowing snow and winds gusting to over 70 mph right now (Friday night)

Should I even go on with the weekend update? I will for anyone looking for a bit of light reading and spotty prognostications. It’s no spring up here today, a mix of cold wet snow and rain is blowing at a decent clip. Don’t get too excited it’s not going to be enough snow to fill in the gullies and bring us up to 1969 snow totals. (1969 was a big year for snow, avalanches took out one of the AMC lean-twos.) But that doesn’t matter for this coming weekend, what does is the high pressure that is moving in and pushing our overnight temperatures down to around the 3 degree mark. Add 80 mph winds and you’ve got a brutal winter night on the mountain. The high winds will continue through the day on Saturday so grab an extra cup of joe at your local coffee shop and linger in town where the grass is green and there’s no need for plastic boots. The spectre of high winds, mid-teens, cloudy, and morning snow showers on Saturday makes me want to crawl into several cups of coffee. With those kind of numbers the spring skiing will be non-existent, if snow total start to creep up we may even have to deal with a few isolated areas of instability. So check in for the morning advisory to see what happened overnight.

Sunday’s going to reach a blazing 15 to 20 degrees, with a classic northwest breeze coming over the mountain at 40 to 50 mph sprinkled with gusts up around 70 mph. Perfect day for drying laundry out on the line! At least the sun will be out and Monday will begin to warm up slowly just in time for the work week.

All kidding aside, the snowpack is hard right now, really good for crampons and ice axes. Not much else. Any falls at this point in the season quickly turn into long slides into rocks that get bigger and bigger as the melt season goes on. The other hazard we see getting bigger and bigger with each day is the crevasses now creeping further toward Chute and a few smaller ones opening in the upper Chute and Left Gully. Roped up and jittery, Frank and I looked around at a few of them this week. They’re big and deep so make sure you know what’s below you and what your fall-line has in it. Other hazards we’ve been talking about consistently is the danger of icefall. The cold temps should keep that to a minimum, so if you’re searching for something positive in this text, there it is. As always get the latest advisory in the morning before leaving the coffee shop, or your warm bed, it might make all the difference between a good day up here or a bad one.

Enjoy the weekend!
