Quality skiing in Chugach St Park this weekend; Pioneer and Eagle.
Pristine snow off Eagle summit, deep!
View of flute and organ, the only sun all day with these north facing routes
Jeremy sampling some:
then Luc:
thanks for another good weather window and great partners! |

Wait you skied Eagle Peak from the top? FKNA sickbird says "CAW"
Now I feel like a pussy for what I did today...
I mean I've been looking at it forever, sure felt good to ski it... _________________ Skis: $599

Yea it's great to see people taking advantage of this great winter to step up their game. Uni on the steeps, AKPM realizing his childhood dreams and Phil ticking them off. I'm sure there's allot more than this going on. _________________ Pittsburgh, it's in Pensylvania |

Awesome photos!
For those venturing into CSP... the lines being skied are huge. Time to step it up a notch. This is probably the best snow year we'll see for 20-30 years so time for those of you knocking off the day trips to load up the pack & head deep into our park for an overnight.
Malignant Gully. It's big and steep. It may or may not have been skied already.
The Shroud. Big and bad. If the icefall don't get you then the bergschrund might. There is usually a rock step but it might be covered this year. A speed wing might be safer than skis.
Organ - NE glacier. Steep rocky band to rolly polly glacier skiing with mondo holes that will eat you. There is also a really tight and nasty steep couloir on the N face proper. Good luck.
Everyone knows about this one already - but if you're back there ticking off Malignant Gully and the Shroud you might as well tick this one off too.
That couloir in the distance is the NW face of East Kiliack. It's actually quite mellow and something that even I could ski. Posted here for those who want something bigger but don't really want to huck off icefalls.
NW Couloir of Bashful. It's hidden in the first picture behind a buttress. Second photo shows it. This is a huge steep line first climbed by Art Davidson eons ago and a frequent contributor to this thread once endured a bivouac on it. This year is probably as good as it's going to get for the next 30-40 years.
Frontier. Probably easy this year.

And finally.... next time you're in the grocery checkout line pick up the recent Alaska Magazine & turn to page 44 for a 2 page spread of AKPM!

Damn -- what a view!
I just noticed that AKPM isn't wearing a life jacket in that photo of him rowing. Waders and no life jacket - what's up with that?? Patrick you know better. Such wantonly careless behavior greatly reduces your chance of netting an Outside cougar. |
