Going to park at the upper lodge, skin up, descend to the south and climb Balsam Mt (probably just hiking), come back, then down on skis. That'll be my next-to-last 3500 Club climb. Then on Tuesday I guess I'll just hike up Blackhead to finish up. -- |

We were up in Black Mountain in Rumford, ME for the J2 Nordic Championships this weekend. While my elder daughter competed, I checked out this small not for profit mountain. With the limited snow there were only a few runs down, but lift tix on Fridays are only $10! Oh and it's free for night skiing if you are there on Thursday nights! With such a deal you would think it would be crowded. Well three of us enjoyed the hill.
Most chairlift rides looked like this.
My younger daughter going full Norpine with skate skis and poles, in the beginner area.
Oh, Glen Plake stayed at the same hotel while he and his wife tried to get PSIA Level III certified at Sunday River last week. We had some coffee together in the morning and he signed a poster for my girls. Great guy. Everything you hear is true.

Hooked up with a fellow TTipster today and headed a little to the SW of home. Unbelievably we found around 7 inches or so of soft powder! Great glade too. Michelle came along for her biggest BC adventure to date and did great! All smiles.... well, a little skeptical on the schwacky stuff on the approach but once in the glade surrounded by views and wide open trees to ski she quickly became all smiles! (well snacks didn't hurt either)
What a blue bird day too!
Pretty nice woods.
Just had to do some laps! Michelle resting her legs...
Ollie was having fun too.
And great lines all the way to the car!
Well worth the effort. Still can't believe we found such soft powder on such a perfect day. Hopin for more of this this week.
I'm off all week if anyone wants to ski....
Oh, was my first time skiing my new BD Justice skis. HOLY $#!^!! I can't believe how much fun those are! All grins today!!! |

Great pics russ! Look forward to seeing what you get up to the rest of the week.
After a mere 5 days of skiing all season, just skied 3 days at MRG. Good I love that place. After a firm Friday we had 6 to 8 inches of powder on Saturday that made for fun turns pretty much all day. Today was warm, but the powder was still pow in the shade and up high. Excellent time, as always. Man I am BEAT. |

Best snow was from about 2200' up to 3200' ish. Below 2000 stuff gets boney. End of the day the moisture content increased, so if it freezes overnight, you'll need to wait for thins to soften up. We still have lower elevation snow here on North aspects in Vershire but the more days we get in the 50's and 60's that will change fast.
Knee has been feeling great! Those new skis are the ticket though. Rockered 115 underfoot will make anyone look like they know what they're doing! I'm going to be dreaming of those skis I know it.
Soooooo stoked to have gotten a chance to use them finally. |

russ, nice pics..that open glade looks really sweet.
I demoed a pair of Justice early in the season, on some, sketchy boney snow and I couldn't believe how well they floated over everything.
So, I bought a pair, for myself; last years red ones, 175 cm for VT glades.
Still have to get them mounted up.. |

| Yeah, I just mounted mine and almost didn't bring em thinking it wouldn't be so good. SOOOO happy I opted to try em. I can't get over the floatation in the powder and how well they charged through the lower elevation wet snow. Very happy that they lived up to the hype! |

She finished 12th in the 5k classic Saturday and her split was 4th fastest girl's classic leg of the mixed relay yesterday. Her skate tempo is still a work in progress.
Oh and nice backyard, Russ. You've got a nose for glades!
Still working on a trip to Tux/GoS for the 3/31 or 4/8 weekend if anyone is interested. _________________ Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for.
