Hey ladies,
Any experience with the Garmont NTN Priestess vs the Womens TX Pro? The Womens TX Pro's fit my wife in a 25 but have an uncomfortable amount of forward lean. Any ideas on how the Garmonts fit by comparison (eg wider? or?), and what the forward lean is like? (Bentgate specs the Garmonts as having a greater forward lean which I find hard to believe...) |

i think quiverqueen and Gwen can help here...
I thought the TX Pro had the same 'powerblock' heel lever as my retrofitted TX Comps? Assuming the answer is 'yes', then the amount of fwd lean is easily fine tuned via two allen bolts in the shop or at your house.

btw different mfgers measure fwd lean different ways, so don't worry too much about nominal numbers.

I've skied both and think the Garmont fwd lean is fixed but felt similar to the factory setting of the TX. As Nils pointed out, the TX is designed to be adjusted - the specs indicate 14 - 28 degrees I think.
I would buy the boot that fits best and go from there. I haven't seen it done, but would have to think a quality bootfitter could adjust the fwd lean of the Garmont (seems most bootfiter doctrine on-line suggests it as true).
Now to the kicker. I have a slightly used (5 light days, baked 1x) pair of 2010/2011 (last year's) Priestess for sale in a 25.5. I'm motivated to sell so if price is a factor and you are ok with slighty used gear send me a PM. |

DDog: I skied the Garmont Prophet for two full seasons. The Priestess wasn't yet available when I bought the Prophets. While the Garmont boot was comfortable and fit me well (Mondo 25) I ran into two issues. First, the Prophet really softened up (150+ days over two seasons) and as a result I had difficulty skiing larger skis (wider than 94 mm underfoot). It felt like to me the boot would fold along its axis somewhat and the ski wouldn't respond especially at higher edge angles. Secondly, I think the forward lean of the Prophet/Priestess is way too much. My alpine boots (Lange RS) have a modern upright 14 degree forward lean. That works really well with current ski designs and modern skiing movement patterns. This year I bought Scarpa TX/Comps which aren't that much stiffer in the bellows, just have less notchy feeling than the bellows flex of the TX/Pros. It did take me a dozen or so days to break them in, however. The thing I really love about the Scarpa boots is the adjustable forward lean being similarly configurable to my Lange's--mine are set at the most upright position, about 14 degrees. IMHO, perfect for both telemark turns and alpine turns. My thighs don't feel nearly so loaded skiing the more upright boot after a long day. Some of that could simply be from using a more compact (fore/aft) stance the NTN system promotes and rewards and the rest from some marginal improvement in my skiing over the years.
I think the Scarpa TX/Pro/Comp is narrower in the heel and wider in the forefoot than the Garmont Prophet/Priestess. Even though I now prefer the Scarpa boot, I really like the Garmont's replaceable duckbutt and wish my TX/Comps had them as well. Mine (on the Prophets) have taken a beating from hiking with them and it's nice to know I can replace them without having to replace the boots. |

Can't comment on the Garmonts because they persist in their refusal to make smaller shell sizes in any of their adult tele boots, and while my feet might be smaller than some kids' feet, I weigh more than a kid. (Yeah, I posthole, too  )
That being said, my TXPros are very comfortable, I think flexwise they are pretty similar to the T1's, perhaps a tad stiffer. I have two minor complaints: I really dislike the stock tongue liner Scarpa is using now, and the forward lean angle is too aggressive even at the tallest setting for my short lower leg. I ski them in walk mode. Minor complaints both, and small tradeoffs for the ability to enjoy the new system.
The fit in the Pros is different than Scarpa's duckbill boots, higher volume through the forefoot, though still nice heel retention.
I know there are a few other gals out there in NTN's....

| I am skiing on the Priestess and have done for 2 seasons. I agree the forward lean is quite substantial in the Priestess and the boots have certainly softened up with 2 seasons use. The biggest issue I had though was the terrible Garmont liner the boot came with. They had seams running all over the place and were terribly uncomfortable. I popped my alpine race liner in and improved the boot 150%! Since I have got a Nordica race boot liner and have had no problems at all- I love these boots and even teach beginner Alpine lessons in them on my alpine skis as they are so comfy! |

I was wondering- has anyone ever actually *needed* to replace their duckbutt? When I had Prophets I had to tighten the duckbutt screws a couple times, and never thought I might have to actually replace them even though they got a beat up *appearance* from alot of hiking on rocks- made me think that isn't such a great feature actually.

I have the prophets and echo that exact sentiment. The rapid liners are uncomfortable. I put scarpa intuition wrap liners in my prophets and now the boots are amazing. They are soft to tour in with the buckles open, but the combination of the boot tongue being attached to the lower shell and being captured when you clasp the cuff buckles, the wrap liners, and the wrap boot cuff, combine to stiffen the boot up considerably for descending.... best of both worlds. Super comfortable all day and lightweight, with decent power.
I have the first version with the softer bellows, which I like for touring with, but the boot definately would be more powerful with a stiffer bellows... (which was done to the present version of the boot) The first version also had less forward lean angle, which I prefer. I called garmont and they sent me the newer lean mechanism which I tried, but did not prefer....
People have complained about the prophet's lack of a heel cup to keep the heel from rising when you drop a knee. It took a second careful thermofitting with my scarpa liner to eliminate that. I think the stock liner is part of that problem...
Overall, I would recommend the boots, especially if you are mostly a touring tele skier, but I would also say that you should try swapping a different liner into them if you have them,... just to try it.... There's more than a few people who have the swapped liner in their prophets... I think Nstelemark also has swapped liners in his boots and prefers them that way....

One observation on the flex of the TX pros - I have the size 26 and think that they are soft. Much softer than my old T1s. My girlfriend has the size 23 and they are very stiff. Stiffer than my T1's and my friends size 26 comps. It is always going to be a bit subjective when trying to scale the flex across different sizes but the difference here is quite extreme, so when comparing observations on flex above keep this in mind!
