Hi TTipers!
I'm part of a group of 8 backcountry skiers (there is at least one other, more famous forum member on the trip - I'll leave it up to him/her to decide whether or not to reveal him/herself ) looking to fill 2-3 spots available for a great ski trip.
The trip is: heli in and out, self-catered (usually very good food) and self-guided, with enough room in the chopper for good beer and wine.
The group is experienced, 30's and up in age (but not discriminating), avy savy, men and women, mostly mellow in ambitions but with a few people wanting more on any given day.
The skiing is in an area that we know quite well (our fourth year with this operator), a lot of treeline and glade skiing on all aspects, plenty of alpine options if snow pack allows it. Elevation of about 6000 feet (up and down from that) with deep and generally colder snowpack than PNW.
The cabin features propane heat and sauna, a stove with oven, and oodles of fun and memories that will last a lifetime.
The jumping off point is Clearwater BC (about 90 minutes north of Kamloops - probably about 4-5 hours from Vancouver and 6-7 from Seattle). We plan to drive up on the 16th and overnight in a local hotel. We fly first thing Saturday morning. Carpooling from Vancouver and/or Bellingham is possible.
The cost is $880 per person for 7 nights in cabin + chopper flight in and out. Each person will be part of a group responsible for about 3 meals (breakfast and/or dinner). Lunch is typically an individual thing.
The website of our hosts will give many more details. We are staying at the Discovery Cabin. You can also PM me for more details or to let us know you're interested. _________________ Thanks to Telemon for getting me a new avatar - RIP Bob |

Sounds like great fun and given that Mrs. WH will likely be on strike, we might have the time. RET, you'll just give me your seat, Mrs. WH will take a new seat, and you will housesit and look after our kids.
Don't worry, they can show you around Whistler.
I'm guessing the famous guy is Hdiddy and he's gonna' spend the whole time shillin' us on NTN _________________ "It's a strange world made up of extreme horizontal and vertical planes. Where you find diagonal, you find skiing."

Is it the cabin you get to after you descend the east ridge of Trophy and then countour around/descend a little North-East?
Was only there in summer (traverse from Trophy to Battle), awesome place. _________________ I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with someone who is clearly unarmed. Target practice, on the other hand . . . |

We can only have two NTN shills on this trip and those spots are already taken!
WH - I'm guessing it won't be too long before we can organize a hut trip for families. I know my boys have been enjoying the soft snow lately and they have endless energy for going uphill. I just need to cook up some homebrew touring gear from them like you did. _________________ Thanks to Telemon for getting me a new avatar - RIP Bob |

I'm a bit directionally impaired, but that sounds correct. Discovery and Trophy are the two (of the three) cabins that Ian and Tay run that have big terrain. The third one (Fight Meadow) is much lower angle - snowshoeing, x-country, etc.
Our group has been to Trophy (once) and Discovery (twice). Both have access to great terrain - though I would describe Trophy as a bit more complicated with faster access to the alpine. Discovery has better tree and glade skiing. _________________ Thanks to Telemon for getting me a new avatar - RIP Bob |

The funny thing is the 1:50k map shows a 300 foot vertical cliff as you head up to Battle from the cabin. It had us second-guessing our route. Needless to say the map was totally wrong. _________________ I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with someone who is clearly unarmed. Target practice, on the other hand . . . |

'Honky-tonk, for a thousand bucks cash, a well-stocked fridge and bar and a set of steak knives...
I'll do it!

stevesliva: Looks like RET's got it covered. FYI - many of us are in Bellingham, so plenty of carpool options if you can get up here. _________________ Thanks to Telemon for getting me a new avatar - RIP Bob |
