You found morels? I am actually very jealous!
I'm going out foraging on sunday to see what I can find. I have no idea how things are going to be with all of this rain, but I have a feeling that it could be pretty good.

In the photo is some of the oldest rock in the region, some of the youngest rock in the region (very debilitating to ski bases), as well as the (not pictured obviously) second largest underground gold strike in U.S. history.
Hungry in Cos sorry about your wet snow. Saturday was the best day of the weekend for us. |
The rocks..are they granite outcroppings in any way related to the Basin..or a Cascade thing ? the outcroppings run all the way up the Silver Valley!

Burch or Birch Mountain is the old rock and the basalt is the new rock. Divided in the photo by the Columbia River. I think the closest granite to Wenatchee would be in Leavenworth or up the Entiat. The debilitating rocks at Mission are basalt. Most of Mission Ridge ski area is built on basalt flows. Some is pure grass and old growth but is generally south west facing and the best skiing if you can get it properly. (After the recent storms on US2 out of Leavenworth there is a substantial supply of freshly calved serpentinite; a touch- metamorphosed slippery special).
This was early Saturday. Northwest facing slope.

I actually meant to say basalt..It's such a
common feature across the region, apparently
from Mission almost to lookout..
@ Riverside State Park, Spokane River..

Morels were not out, but we found lots of
brains out in the clearcuts , in areas that
seemed to be slightly wind-sheltered..it's
just been too cool and not sunny enough for morels,
i think..

Doing a work project right @ the base of the resort, lodge level.
The hucklberries have all turned color as you can see..
When the low temps drop another 10 degrees,
the mountain will be white again..hey Grampatele, are
there huckleberries

Taken from Quartz Peak Lookout Saturday @ sunrise..
A new lift will access 8 (mostly) old runs to the far left and
around the mountain, if and only if people will stop fighting
over it..First snows should appear this week..cheers

the mountain is generally deserted
thursdays and fridays..
if u want to climb, it's closed
mondays and tuesdays so
tour away esp then.. the open areas
and glades on the west side
are popular for skiing
outta-bounds, and the south side
also.. conditions vary as always..
40+ minutes from town

Grampatele..I was up on the mountain today
skiing about 14in of fresh, heavy snow -- which
was actually way fun so long as I did not get stuck
in a totally tracked out area -- and I fled the
horrific fog and blinding snow on the south side for
some sun and way less wind on the north @ chair 4..
Anyways, here are a couple shots looking down
on the Blanchard Valley where one of your condos in
question are..The tiny town of Blanchard and its valley
are in the rain/fog shadow of Mnt Spokaloo..

GT, this run, and others on this
north slope, held snow well
into July last year, though early June is
more common..It's 1700 feet or so of vert,
though much less in summer and it involves
a bit of hiking then!

Be telling the "Boys" tonight at sauna. Been looking for an off the beaten path, this might be it. Bumming big skiing has not happened for almost a week and this old guy is getting twitchy, but seeing the pictures is pain relieving. Hope to ski up stowe on Monday and get some as they will be closed. Huckleberry should know but don't. Teleman
