IMHO, Chula Vista '85 was definitely the best show played on Sept 15, hands down.

Crap. I can't remember which MSG show I saw in that run. Shocked Bruce Hornesby rocked. My next favorite after Pigpen. I thought Vince was in the way when Jerry and Bruce jammed.
Double crap. I just realized it was fall '90 that I caught an MSG show...

Both Fall 91 and 93 produced some excellent shows, particularly at MSG and Boston Garden. Here are a pair from 9/22 that hold a special place for me:

9/22/91 - wicked good shakedown opener and some rarities for sure. this is one of my favorite shows of the 90's.

9/22/93 - awesome help>slip>franks opener, all good from there.

I was at that 91 show. Actually, I went to all nine of those MSG shows, and right before the run started, I went to see Blues Traveler at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester. 10 shows in 12 days left me a happy, weary, fried woman.

9/24/91:
http://www.archive.org/details/gd91-09-24.sbd.miller.25939.sbeok.shnf

great show from the boston run. notable: a rare late era high time, big RR blues, desolation row, new speedway first set closer.

china>rider is quite pleasing. also got a dark star on this night and the foolish heart out of space is neat. love this version of standing on the moon.

man, Fall 91 was a great time to be a deadhead!!

enjoy!

Last night . . .

09/23/11 (Fri) Cuthbert Amphitheater - Eugene, OR

Set 1: Feel Like A Stranger, Shakedown Street > Minglewood Blues, Dire Wolf, It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry, Cumberland Blues, Pride of Cucamonga, Cassidy

Set 2: Music Never Stopped > Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion), Strawberry Fields Forever > The Other One > Wharf Rat > The Wheel > Uncle John's Band, Help On The Way > Slipknot! > Franklin's Tower

E: Ripple

Solid first set. Standout tunes included Takes a Train, C. Blues, Pride, and Cassidy.

Second was truly spectacular. Really inspired and exploratory playing. This band is for keeps - catch em while you can.

Back for more in a couple of hours - YEEHAW!!

Cool

With all due respect (and I mean that sincerely), you cannot include anything on this thread that occured after 7/9/95.

Just saying.

And from last night . . .

09/24/11 (Sat) Cuthbert Amphitheater - Eugene, OR

Set 1: Playing In The Band > Crazy Fingers > Big Bad Blues, Brown Eyed Women > Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues, Catfish John, Throwing Stones, Casey Jones

Set 2: Jack Straw, Bertha, Estimated Prophet > Dark Star > Caution > The Eleven > Eyes Of The World > Black Peter > China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider E: One More Saturday Night

Another top-notch show from the best Grateful Dead cover band ever! Wish I was going tonight but alas must keep some reserves in the tank for the first week of classes. If the opportunity arises, I recommend checking Furthur out - this band is the REAL DEAL. After Eugene they are heading east to MT, UT, CO, and then back to CA in the next couple of weeks.

Very Happy

Huh. Well, perhaps you misread the thread title. "Further" is not the Grateful Dead. Nor is "The Dead". Neither is "Ratdog"....

...and certainly not some wanna-be poseur cover band.

Figure it out.

If it isn't the Grateful Dead, then put it elsewhere.

I recommend your own cheeseball thread titled, "best cover band setlists" or something to that accord.

Man oh man. Some poeple's kids.

funny thing, though, the grateful dead spent a good portion of their time on stage as a cover band....

So true.

And this is a Grateful Dead related thread.

Let's keep it that way, shall we?
