So I've been wanting to start this thread because I've been doing a bit of this kind of thing this year and it's been fun. But this topic was dear (or something) to the heart of a certain troll and I didn't want the stoke to get drowned out in all that noise.
But it's quiet again now so I'll toss out a few pics from a recent day skiing up the Carbon Creek trail near Carbon Peak. I would have liked to be skiing pow on bigger gear, but I've been busy, my regular BC partner is gone this season, and avi conditions were a little sketchy.
Feel free to contribute your own XC/XCD stoke.
Some (ok, a lot of) breaking trail on 6-8" of new.

Carbon from near the top of my ski that day, maybe 4 Miles in.

I found a nice meadow with just enough pitch and did some meadow skipping. I made a few more laps and farmed this baby out!

The sun was getting low by the time I was getting close to the car.

From the lot, the castles are on the horizon across the valley:

| Lovely! There is a meadow-skipping thread on another Ski forum I frequent, and I think it's a great topic. Hope to see more! |

Well I guess some folks just skip harder than others.
Nice photos all; looks like fun. |

Awesome!! Great photos. Thanks for that.
I have been doing more of that myself this year, but 90% has been at night (making picture taking tough). I'll strap on a headlamp and hit the trails til 9-9:30 p.m. Get home, grab a bite & a beverage (or three) and hit the rack. Sleep comes easily after a great ski.
Lost most of our snow the last couple of days so any more skiing this year will likely have to be lift-served. _________________ "The cowards never started and the weak died along the way..." - Kit Carson |

Amen.
I was out last night for some sunset kick and glide with the lab at sunset on a frozen lake. It's nice way to wind down from a busy day. _________________ “I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.” Kurt Vonnegut |

Leavenworth, Washington. They've been running the event for 30 years or so. I was in heaven!! What a party. The event ran this past Saturday and I missed it but next year.......
Instead I skied closer to home this year
Jumped the rail for some XCD and after some nice turns did a face plant on a snowmobile trail at the bottom

This is my kind of thread.
Carbon Peak is gorgeous. I think I may have climbed that back in like 1983 in the summer. I remember no water... Is it near Gunnison?
THe Hog Loppet looks awesome. |

Carbo - whoa, that's some extreme skipping!

Carbon is great! It just wasn't the day to be up there and I was solo.
Wow, this thread is taking off nicely! Thanks for all the contributions!

Yeah, just up the Ohio Creek valley from Gunnison. I bet that was it; it's pretty popular. _________________ There cannot be pleasure without pain. -Skerik

Hey wooley - we have a loppet here now (just north of vancouver) around the same time. I'd love to train for the Hog Loppet and do it with some people. Interested? You could then come do the Sigge's Payak (15, 30, or 50 k) the next day!
Leavenworth is maybe 5 or 6 hours from here.
If you are interested, (in a year) let me know. |

If by "training" you mean casual tours through the woods followed by drinking moderate amounts of German beer to wash down multiple plates of strudel, I'm in!
Some great photography in this thread. Lets see some more. |
