I've gotten yelled at by some of the land-owners up in Cardiff, as have many others on this board. What's funny is that while they complain about skiers mistakenly trespassing on their land (FWIW when we had our encounter, no one in our party saw any signs), they had been out high marking deep into FS land. Hypocrites.

Laughing I can really see the FS out makin things safe....I like the PS too, that damn water treatment plant. SteveS summarized their very dull points well. What I don't get is why they are so bothered by skiers? All those tracks wreck the highmarking.? The noise....click, clack, ckiity clack?......rather I think it is restrictions on who gets a bile permit (family only I believe) .

As i read it, they have three great reasons to be angry.

Trespassing: My land, is my land. Unless you have my permission, you shouldn't be on it.

Monitary loss: The value of their land lease to WPG is de-valued because of the Sunday Monday closure. They blame the bc skiers who then trespass on their land for the rule.

Pride: Angry encounters with bc skiers when confronted about trespassing. Why wouldn't they hate us if their encounter's are underinformed a-holes who don't respect thier proporty rights?

I don't like their solution for many reasons, but thier reasons for being upset seem valid enough to me.

Note to self: Be sure to insult the person to whom you are asking to rule in your favor by predicating the request with seven paragraphs of vitriol.

I liked the part about the hypothetical visitor from France who would be shocked about not being able to heli-ski every day of the week.

You see in France, every day of the week is like every other - HELISKIING IS BANNED ON ALL OF THEM THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COUNTRY

Crimeny...put up a copulating fence if you don't want people on your land.

Oh, wait...a whiny letter is much less expensive.

Our government has the responsibility to do what is in the public interest. What serves the public interest is to allow the public access to public lands. The Feds need to use Eminent Domain to create contiguous forest service property and access to these canyons.

Yeah I noticed that too but didn't know about the ban in France. Too funny.

Wingnuts.

Be careful out there, though - they seem to be escalating their protests and they clearly are a little short on conflict resolution and anger management skills. All fun and games until someone gets shot or run down.

Distasteful as it seems, it might be best to just smile and wave (and discreetly take photos or video) and report incidents to the FS. Or be better prepared for a firefight. Those in the know are worried about these guys.

PSA: If you are going to carry, make a choice between weed and a gun. Don't carry both. I know which I would choose in this case. Option C, ski with a lot of friends.

Not really. See, what is forbidden is to use an helicopter to reach the top of a mountain. But... you can ski down to a hidden valley, or anywhere where it would be very difficult to get out, and use an helicopter to pick you up. So that's heliski, but the other way.

What you just have to do is use the lifts as much as possible, and do any subsequent mountaineering on your own. Then you can choose any line, even some that lead you to a dead-end.

I think that it's a great thing. There are so many skiers in here, on a rather small mountain area, that any skiable summit would be filled with wannabe large mountain skiers that just happen to have the money to rent an helicopter/pilot.
